I use to have a .357 snub nose, S&W, model J (or K, I think). Loved it. Was always fun to shoot. Recoil was big, but manageable. I also had big rubber grips on it. Maybe that helps.

My dad also had a S&W snubnosed .38 when growing up. Never had any issues shooting that either.v

Can buy guns that serve the same purpose better now. Its still fun.

Cheap. Never fails. Small. Easy to clean.

I just don't get how it's outdated.

I thought I wanted a Detective Special, but they are smaller than I realized.

Mrs. Midnight has an N-frame, 8-shot, 2 3/4" "snub nose" .357 revolver.

It weighs 37 1/2 oz, empty.

I wouldn't want to put 200 rounds of full power 357b rounds out of it during one range session, but it's fairly tame for a snub nose. Accurate with a nice crisp trigger.

It is a $1000 revolver, though.

That's what my wife's gun is. A little harder to get the hang of than something with a 4-inch barrel, but it is plenty accurate. I'd prefer it to have a little more weight, but for what it is, it is fine. I just prefer my XD-SC.
