Yellowstone or yosomite for a springtime family trip?

Planning for next years "big trip" Been to GC. Yellowstone or Yosemite next spring? 3 kiddos Ages 13 to 8. Light hiking and sightseeing is all I'm confortable with as a group. No to sking or rafting. Too many to watch.

Many years Yosemite isn't open until mid to late June depending on the snow pack that year.

Yosemite is amazing. Rent a house at Yellowstone West and you be pleased. Fantastic hiking and scenery in the springtime when the waterfalls are a peak.
Never been to Yellowstone but it is on deck for next year.
We went in April and most was open except the back roads.

Yellowstone. More things to keep kids interested (more wildlife, geysers, etc and just much bigger). Also, the high areas of Yosemite won't be open if the weather returns to normal. Tioga pass in particular will be closed. Yosemite is a great park for hiking. Yellowstone for driving around and seeing attractions.

I worked in Yellowstone while in college, and remember arriving in mid May & there was still snow on the ground in some places. But not enough to cause any real problems. Just check the forecast when making any reservations earlier in the year. The main advantage in going in the Spring is that it is not crowded..late June through mid August the park becomes a parking lot at times. And lines everywhere. But wherever you end up, when you get there, talk to some of the student employees & ask them where they go on their off days, as they know all the best spots, i.e. for viewing & tourist avoiding. For instance, 99% of the tourists watch Old Faithful go off from the main viewing areas. There is a hiking trail up a nearby mountain, ending up in a shaded area, several benches, that gives a great view of Old Faithful & odds are no one else will be there.Down below, usually there are hundreds packed in next to each other.

Yosemite is very crowded so keep that in mind. We went last April and there was a freak spring storm with 20 degree temps one night. It was still crowded that weekend. I can't imagine how crowded it is when people don't cancel their plans.
Having said all that, do yourselves a favor and GO! It's truly amazing. Just keep the crowd expectations in check and be sure to get on some trails like Panorama, Mariposa Grove etc. consider Artist Point as well... It was stunning. We were seemingly alone on these trails. Most of the crowd sticks to the valley viewpoint trails.

Yellowstone. I worked in canyon village last year and it was the best experience of my life. Like another poster said, ask some of the workers and they'll tell you the best spots with no lines or tourists. There's no other place like yellowstone in the US and very little places like it in the world

Same with parts of Yellowstone, although some of the park is open year round.

We just left yellowstone 4 days ago. We spent 4 days and I really think we needed 4 more to see everything. Beautiful place.

North rim much nicer than the south rim. Get a room early at north rim lodge.
South rim is made to move tourist through. North rim much more secluded and better experience.
Yellowstone and grand Teton are best in early October. Less tourist and will be some snow.
Yosemite is amazing. But gets very crowded during high season

Yellowstone is all open by mid may. Close down mid September then only old faithful and mammoth are open year round but only accessible through snow coach or snowmobile

Yellowstones a bit more family friendly. More things to do and see. Jackson hole being right there, grand Tetons, Cody. Hot springs to get in and tons of animals to see. Could raft with no problem.
Yosemite is better overall. Better hiking, better waterfalls, better trees. It's open in the spring, just backroads aren't necessarily open yet. It's more beautiful than Yellowstone but can be insanely crowded in summer. Springs a great time to go.

With a family, Yellowstone no question. Unless you're in for some serious hiking, there's just way more to do in Yellowstone.

Yosemite never closes. However, in spring a lot of the park is inaccessible due to closed roads, namely Glacier point road and the Tioga Pass road.
The Valley is open and is the best part of the park.
I do not know about Yellowstone, but I'd be cautious about it, too, due to snowy conditions.

Would you guys recommend Yosemite or Tahoe if I only was able to spend a day and night either place? Going to a conference in SF next month and wanted to check the area out
