I really don't understand the downvoting of posts that suggest that a dog owner should keep their dogs in their yards. No one said the dog deserved, or that the dog should get attacked for being in someone's yard. Seriously, WTF is so difficult about keeping your dog on your property? I'm not talking about hunting dogs either or a dog that escapes.

I hate people who are cruel to animals (including the shovel person in this instance). But, I dislike people who don't tend to their dogs. My dogs are in a fenced yard or out in the country on my land - so exercise some common courtesy and keep your dog on your place.

Why do they even make backyards for people if they don't use them?

See, his willingness to commit murder and the slightly different spelling of the name are your clues that this guy is NOT, in fact, Superman.

If the story played out 100% as described by the owner, then the neighbor is a complete piece of shite. That said, if we take the story at face value, I can't believe that the owner wouldn't already have prior knowledge of the neighbor being batshit crazy and potentially dangerous toward the dog. In that case I believe the owner should be ashamed of himself/herself for not protecting the dog from the batshit crazy neighbor i.e. fences, leash, what have you.

It sucks but that's just how it is. If you know your neighbor is a crazy a-hole who might attack your dog, you need to protect your dog from the neighbor. And that doesn't mean OMFG I'LL KILL THE NEIGHBOR FOR HITTING MY DOG WITH A SHOVEL, because by that point:
1. The damage to the dog is done already
2. In a keeping it real battle, the neighbor is already proven to be fricking crazy enough to beat a pet with a shovel while giving zero fricks to the consequences, and is already armed with said shovel
3. Even if you win the keeping it real battle by murdering the crazy neighbor, excellent work building a life for yourself that ends with you dying in Angola over your righteous fury to avenge your injured pet

I understand property rights but beating my dog with a shovel gets returned in kind. When you step in my yard I'll tase you or your virus carry sperm creations or throw a brick at you. Just a heads up.

Labs are both crafty and strong. I have two lab mix puppies, one of which got out a week ago. She literally ripped the wooden boards off the fence. Thankfully, she didn't wander any farther than the carport, but it's tough to contain labs.

Mine would just climb 6ft fence
