If a human is attacked by any lab the problem is not with the lab. Guaranteed.

If the story played out 100% as described by the owner, then the neighbor is a complete piece of shite. That said, if we take the story at face value, I can't believe that the owner wouldn't already have prior knowledge of the neighbor being batshit crazy and potentially dangerous toward the dog. In that case I believe the owner should be ashamed of himself/herself for not protecting the dog from the batshit crazy neighbor i.e. fences, leash, what have you.

There has to be more to the story.

The kids were throwing the ball for the dog in the front yard while the neighbor was working in his front yard with a shovel.

Hmmm.. who thinks the kids were purposefully throwing the ball over the property line in an attempt to antagonize the neighbor?. Kids would never do that, right?

Probably threw the ball close to the neighbor, on purpose, after he told them to stop or to surprise the neighbor.

The dog runs to get ball thrown towards where the neighbor was peacefulky working on his flower beds minding his own business, when he looks up, see big dog running towards him, dog is growling for the ball, dog gets beaten by neighbor with shovel.

Kids blame neighbor and said they didndonuffin wrong.

? Would you beat a dog if it was running towards you, growling?

You've clearly never owned a lab.

Or kids threw the tennis ball too far?

In what situation, other than the dog attacking the guy, is ok to hit it with a shovel and injure it that badly? He was attempting to kill the dog.

I've owned dogs my whole life.

From poodles to pit bulls.

We have Goldens for the past 20 years, family has Boykens Spaniels, currently have a
Black Mouth Cur and a red wire haired dachshund (both were stray puppies we found) at the farm.

Never owned a Lab, have plenty of friends with them. I do known this, Labs are big dogs, friendly as csn be, love to retrieve.

What does ne not owning a lab have to do with my theory?

The dog had to get close to him for him to be able to hit it with a shovel, correct?

Most of the time my dogs are hauling arse for the ball, when they get the ball they immediately turn around and start running back to me with ball.

No way could someone hit them with a shovel unless the ball was thrown basically in their immediate location. No way for someone to have enough time to get a shovel, then catch my dog to beat it.

Face it, the kids were lying about the ball barely going into the neighbors yard.

I am not saying it was ok for the neoghbor to beat the dog!

Only that the other side of the story needs to be known.

He had to hit it twice and labs don't growl when they chase tennis balls.

All kinds of dumbass up in this post.
Who gives a shite if the ball went 10" or 10' into the yard. Shovel wielding tard should be beat with his own shovel.
Talking about a Lab, not a fricking No Country for Old Men pit chasing down a kid to snack on.
