I went to a concert Wednesday night in midtown, but stayed downtown. There are bums damn dear everywhere.
A lot of them came into town about a decade ago. Also, downtown is dead at night and on weekends, so they're the only ones left.

Bums are the plight of almost every major city. Except for New York because Giuliani killed them all.
Especially in the Southeast. Atlanta, Nashville, New Orleans, Houston, etc are all terrible.

The Riverwalk area of downtown San Antonio is the worst I've ever experienced. And I've lived in Houston, Austin, and Memphis and visited New Orleans multiple times, Dallas a bunch, Atlanta, San Francisco, LA, San Diego, SLC, Denver, Springs, Baltimore, DC, and NYC.

Forgot about her. I always said I'd look her up in the phone book if I came to Houston.
It just seems like New Orleans bums have more respect for themselves and others.
FTR, I stayed at Sam Houston. Don't know if that's a bad area or not. Saw a crackhead woman when we got back and said, "Hey look at that crackhead". She was rude enough to turn around and tell me she was addicted to meth, not crack. I tried to snap a pic, but she was flailing all around so it ended up being blurry.
I also expected to see lots of Mexicans, and didn't see many

did think it was funny that a pub had valet parking and a VIP area.
Alot of places in Houston, Dallas and Austin have that now.

Mexicans work for a living and have families. They're at home at night sleeping so they can work the next day or having sex so they can have more kids.

The thing that amazes me about the Houston bums the most is how far they go out outside of the downtown area. You can drive 30 mins out of downtown and those people are on every corner still.
I've never had a problem with them at all though. I used to give one guy money once a week that lived under 290 @ 34th. He was posted up on the same corner all day everyday. You could tell he had mental issues.

Same here in Austin. They are they way up on 183 by anderson mill, Wells Branch, The Domain even on Capital Texas Hwy-loop 360 which i never thought I would see them. They are not allowed in Williamson Cty(Round Rock) Deputies or RR police just bring them to Grand Ave Pkwy and drop them off.

They're everywhere here in downtown SD. They're almost part of the backdrop now.
They aren't too pushy though. If I don't want to give them money they usually say sorry to bother you.

JPSO does a pretty good job of keeping them in New Orleans

I will say the bums in Houston are the most agressive.

They are nothing compared to the bums in front of the State Street/Highland Rd. Circle K after Katrina moved the bum
population of New Orleans to Baton Rouge.

They are also not on every corner in orleans either. It pretty much just a downtown thing.

Elysian Fields disagrees

Austin was just as bad a few years ago. You couldn't exit the interstate without having a few panhandlers asking for $ while you wait at the light.
Had a Houston bum stick his entire head in my car at a gas station while I was closing the car door to leave. Claimed he was a Katrina victim from the 9th ward. Couldn't name one damn street...

I was just about to post this. I was out there for a FTA conference, and we actually saw the police putting a tarp over a dead homeless guy. The others were fighting over his cart :(
