You usually get so many weekends off a year with that.

Most nurses I knew that did those schedules either had young kids so could spend all week home with them

Or

Their spouse/SO also worked a job working every weekend so they were both off during the week together(those usually didn't have kids yet).

Hell no, I already work shiftwork. At least I get 2 weekends off. No way I'd give every weekend up

Did you see that my ex from L.A. that we went to Hi-Fi with just got her first nursing job? Her starting pay is $53 an hour, isn't that a lot for your first nursing job?

Not in Cali

Cali pays the best wages for nurses. It's the nursing unions and cost of living. And....mandatory time and a half pay after you work 8 hours.

So every 12 hour shift you work...the last 4 you are getting time and a half. Nurses in CA easily make 100K on up.

It just thought it seemed like a lot for starting, based on a 40 hour work week thats over $110,000 a year with no overtime( I don't know if nurses get that). I may need to take her up on her offer to get back together!

Well obviously I've never worked in Cali so I don't know average starting wages for a brand new nurse.

But I could easily see an experienced nurse making that.

And...is that her base rate?

My base rate and what I actually make an hour is different because I work nights. I get my base rate plus night shift differential(18% of my base rate) plus weekend differential when I work weekends(8% of my base rate)

IDK for sure, she broke it down for me and I want to say the base was like $48 or $49 but she somehow gets a few extra bucks an hour which brings it up to $53. She is at a very nice hospital and in a specialty unit so I am sure that helps. I don't know her schedule yet so I am not sure about nights either.

My wife's daughter has done it for 10 years and loves it, she gets 2 or 3 weekends off in a year. People seem to either love it or wouldn't do it for any amount of money.

I do it every other weekend, and I don't mind it too much at all. The weekend and night shift diffs definitely make up for the fact that I miss out on a lot of football.

My cousin used to do it, when she worked in ICU. She loved it.

that doesn't sound too far off, depending on location, like nurse said. flex nurses here in okc, start out at $38 per hour, plus shift differential, which is usually another $3-4 per hour.

Man I miss the awesome schedules in the ER. I used to have the greatest schedules. Lots of weekend shifts though, but I have off many days during the week and that's when you can get shite done because everyone else is working all day.

there is a catch, when it comes to a flex nurse. they don't have benefits, so if you're single, it isn't the best idea. having said that, there are several nurses at my hospital, who are married, and use their spouses insurance, so it's not a big deal.

For 36 hours total, but get paid for 40? Then you have Monday through Friday day off. My sister is being offered this at a hospital in Houston in the ER. Strange as hell but obviously a lot of days off.

my uncle is a ER doc in memphis and he loves it. The only thing he doesn't like about it is they rotate days on and off.
