Assuming you had the free time would you consider bring an uber driver? Seems like an easy gig to make money a few nights a week, especially in the LSU area. People need rides to and from downtown/tigerland all the time.

probably not a bad deal for a college student or someone just starting out in their career and not making much money

I'd really check into the insurance stuff. If you get into an accident and injure a passenger is Uber going to back you when you get sued? Because your personal auto insurance isn't when they find out you were for hire.

My buddy does it occasionally on the weekend in Houston.

He ended up banging a passenger

My friend just started driving for them, like someone said, he is just starting his career and is looking for side cash. Have not heard much about it from him, he doesn't seem to hate it

Met a guy who drove for uber last week. Had what looked like a 2013 or 2014 BMW. Said he paid for the note exclusively from his uber money. I've also payed 45$ to go 3 miles after an LSU game. Yes i would.

I just couldn't handle putting that kind of mileage on a semi new car. If i could use my tahoe with 170,000 on it then sure why not

Can an Uber driver carry a pistol? CHL/CCL certified of course?

I mean I would not be gunning down skipped fares, but if some sketchy fricker got in my car like th drunk that pummeled the California driver?

Sounds like a nice side gig.

Uber in NOLA is very lucrative. I was eating dinner on magazine street this previous weekend and watched different Ubers drop off customers at this one location 10 times in the 2 hours we were there.

I'd definitely do it if I needed the cash and had a car rather than a truck

Probably not, uber is based out of California, so I'm sure they are lame on guns

couple friends do it on the side when they are bored or can't sleep. Not a bad deal for some side cash if you can handle drunks

Don't do it, you make about $3 an hour, after self employment taxes and vehicle expenses.

A driver has NO physical damage coverage whatsoever while operating, Uber only provides liability coverage for the duration of the ride. If you get in an accident, your insurer will deny the claim and cancel you for misrepresentation (livery exclusion, vehicle use for commercial purposes).

Just a matter of time before a serial killer targets Uber drivers.

I read up on it a little bit and it seems you're at least partially right. Uber claims that when you're driving someone around their insurance policy covers you.
The gray area is when you have the app on and are on the way to pick someone up. Your personal insurance won't want to cover you because you're technically driving for hire, but uber won't cover you because you don't have a passenger. It's something to look into before I start chauffeuring people around
