Sooooo. They wanna raise it from .20/gallon to .37/gallon.
That's ridiculous.
That's ridiculous.

Yes, but it would never happen.

No.
TxDOT stays on top of their shite, though.

Even if 100% of the new tax went towards roads, it will just allow the government to use up even more of the existing gas taxes for their pet projects.

Taxes sound good in theory but once the crooks (politicians) get control of the funds, shite goes awry.

That money would be better spent on removing those damn offensive monuments

Well, when you tell the department heads they have to spend the budget to keep the budget, they will continue to shell out arse loads of cash on useless shite.
They should incentive department heads to be under budget. To my knowledge there is no incentive for a department to drastically be under budget.

Under budget? Pshht. Bureaucracy laughs in your face. They fire people for coming up under budget
Posted on 3/16/17 at 11:49 pm to Slippy
No because THAT money would go 100% to roads and bridges but they would take other money away from roads and bridges.
Remember the lottery money that was earmarked for education?

How many times has that trick been used? Not no but frick no start cutting useless government programs instead of wanting to raise more taxes.

If that money were incremental over what is currently spent on roads, I think it would be great. trouble is, they would likely just cut back on the current road allocations by the same amount and we would see no improvement of the infrastructure.
Ding. Ding. Ding. We have a winner.
That's the problem with all "allocated" taxes... it just allows them to spend more of the other budget elsewhere. Remember how the casino money was supposed to go to the schools? Have our schools improved by that much? Nope... because they just spend that much less on the school and have that much more to spend on other bull shite.

Remember when they said that if we voted for gambling all the money would go to education?
What did they do?
As soon as the money started coming in they simply cut the amount that went to education out of the general budget by the same amount (actually more).
It's all a SCAM and shell game.
There is no such thing as dedicated funds. It's simply a lie to "sell" their scam.

I live out of state and visit Louisiana often and do not have a problem with the roads.

You think maybe...just maybe, this will resemble the manner in which the La lottery was "sold" to the unwashed ? i.e. "all the proceeds will be dedicated to education in La"...just how has that worked out ????

As long as they need traffic studies, I'm a happy camper.
