That's what might be coming. And while I hate paying taxes, our roads are worse than some third world countries.

They need to let the citizens of LA vote on this.

No.
Trim the fat. No new taxes.

It's Louisiana, the money would be siphoned off. So no.

That fund will be tapped into for some politician's pet project inside 6 months

Absolutely yes.
But that's not how it works. 95% will go to corruption and bullshite.
There should be a clause that any politician who gains in any way from that fund is punished with death.

There is no amount of fat that can be trimmed to pay for the billions in backlogged transportation needs. Not in this life or the next.

No because while the money will be allocated to a wide category of "Roads and Bridges" I am 100% confident that corruption will find a way to spend it differently.
How about we take the taxes we already pay and use the funds more appropriately.

LOL you better audit that shite every day!

If that money were incremental over what is currently spent on roads, I think it would be great. trouble is, they would likely just cut back on the current road allocations by the same amount and we would see no improvement of the infrastructure.

No. Manage the tax income better.
Posted on 3/16/17 at 10:42 pm to Slippy
Yes if it went 100% to bridges. But this is Louisiana....maybe 20% will end up being used for what they tell us its for. Other 80% will be spent on completely unrelated projects and lining corrupt pockets

Well, when you tell the department heads they have to spend the budget to keep the budget, they will continue to shell out arse loads of cash on useless shite.
Which is the exact OPPOSITE thing they need to do.
Well, we have 50k in our account... Guess we should do another "study" so we can keep our budget at this level for the next year.
Logic I tell you.
Posted on 3/16/17 at 10:44 pm to Slippy
Only 11% currently is being used for roads and bridges.
ELEVEN PERCENT
ELEVEN PERCENT

No because they are lying. They always lie.
Posted on 3/16/17 at 10:45 pm to Marco Esquandolas
If the tax would pass the money could and would be bonded so the projects could start quickly. I will support it as we need it bad and as much as I hate new taxes we can't tighten our belt enough to fix these problems. we all need to be vigilant and hold the politicians feet to the fire. It can be done you know.
