I stayed in a Jersey hotel nicknamed the Tic Farm. Spent all night killing tics.

Days Inn in Lafayette

Growing up, we always stayed in this type of place. Days Inn, Comfort Inn, Holiday Inn Express, La Quinta, Super 8.. nothing super ghetto or dangerous; but always something in that tier.

Are these much worse now? I recall them all being acceptable, although I remember they always had this shite plasticy floral designed comforter on the beds. But I don’t have memories of them being awful. Is this just because I was so young and didn’t know better? Or are these worse than they used to be?

It was blind booking. It is very common to get a 4star hotel for less than $100 when you do blind booking. I stayed at Hilton Riverside for $86 a couple weeks ago. I’ve gotten Le Pavillion for $70 twice now.

Those two instances were the only times I’ve been burned by blind booking. Both had decent reviews l. Long Beach, I think because it was all foreigners and their hotel standards aren’t as picky as us. Nashville actually was rated 4star but only 60% recommended in the reviews. I didn’t realize those are two different things. You can get a 2 star hotel that’s 100% recommended. They aren’t mutually exclusive, turns out. It just means the level of amenities:

The W in Buckhead (Atlanta) is a big piece of shite. Had some weird smell and maintenance found a gas leak. Since they were at capacity I had to be moved to the Hyatt about half a mile down the street. This all happened around 11:00pm.

While the receptionist was booking me there were some thuggish looking people hanging out in the lobby who weren't staying at the hotel. Security tried to make them leave and shite hit the fan. I thought I was about to be shot.

To top it off, they booked me at the Hyatt then didn't even shuttle me there. I literally had to walk with my suitcase half a mile down the street at almost midnight.

This may or may not be real, but I've been thrown out of more hotels/motels in Panama City than any where else in the world. In the last 20 years I've been home for 3.5 years so I travel alot. I do believe this is one of them.

Mine was at Peragon in Marksville.

This was about 2 years ago. Was staying the weekend. Met some people there who was staying at the camp ground, but I got a room. If a hotel is going to advertise itself to be a great place to stay.... I would think they would at least have flat screen TVs, they still had tube TVs, which wasn't that big of a deal since I rarely turn on the TV in a hotel.

I went grab something to eat at a place inside the hotel and about an hour after I ate, I started throwing up feeling horrible. All I was able to do was sleep. Ended up throwing up in the bed and had to call for new sheets. After having to call another 2 times, about 3 hrs later they brought me some. I was feeling so bad that I feel asleep before my head hit the pillow. Woke up the next morning feeling a little better and all I could smell is cigarette smoke. It was the sheets.

It was disgusting. I packed my shite up and left..

I hate W hotels in general. Every time I’ve been to one it’s been like a gay bar downstairs and a bunch of 20 somethings yelling up and down the hallways all night.

How about bad experiences in what are supposed to be nice hotels....

I had a stay booked at the Windsor Court in Nola a few years back and we lined up baby sitters and shite so we could stay the first night and join friends for dinner. When we went to check in the place was chaotic and I could tell it was going nowhere in a hurry. They told us to wait in the lobby and they would call us. They called us an hour later to say they had over booked and couldn't take us that night. We ended up sleeping on a couch bed at a friends hotel so no big deal, but it pissed me off for a place like that to put us out, especially since they said it was because we were local.
+
I contacted the GM and expressed my disappointment and he ended up comping us for a weekend for the family of four. We got a complete end of hallway for just us on the club level, which meant suite for the wife and I and a jr suite for the kids.
They got a nice review for that effort.

I can't say I've had any bad experiences in my grown up life that were really bad. The worst I guess was a Motel 6 type that I had to stay at near Lake Jackson, TX due to a shortage of rooms, but other than putting up with some OT trash types in the lobby, it wasn't bad.

That was the most annoying thing. While checking in, and during this ordeal the lobby was like a gay club going on in the background. Loud techno blaring and hotel workers walking around in skin tight black outfits.

Went to tuscaloosa for the lsu/bama game and the only place we could find was a scottish inn motel. There was a tin foil makeshift pipe in the drawer. The sheets were 100 thread count, one person got an eye infection from the pillowcase. There was a condom machine in the lobby. There were sketchy ppl outside all hours of the night carrying on. Haven't stayed in that town since then.

Jesus man. You tear those sheets off the bed. Get a blanket from the little closet and take that shite to town. At least rub one out, but don't sleep on the ground.

We were late getting to Memphis one night and missed our connection.

They comped 6 of us (same company going to company meeting as a group) separate rooms and we thought it was a good thing, but it was at the Admiral Bimbo at the airport, which turned out to be a bad thing.

The place was a dump, bad rooms, trashed hallway, spooky area with weird people. The parking lot was fenced with concertina wire.

I got to my room and locked myself in. Felt ok - It was late late and we had an early flight next day.

About a half hour later, all hell breaks lose in the hallway. Looked through the peephole in the door just in time to see a guy with a Machete taking a swing at the door to my room. I get on the phone and call the desk in a panic. They assure me "the PoPo guys are already on the way and I should stay in the room."

The PoPo guys showed up pretty quick because he had been trying to whack his way into a second floor room, failed and mine was next. They jumped him in the hallway. I was happy they didn't shoot him, because he was only a homicidal maniac crazy person and other than that probably a pretty nice guy.

Slept about 20 minutes that night but I made my flight. Never went to the Bimbo again. I can tell you exactly where it was though.

The whole room was a disaster really. The wallpaper was peeling, stains on the wall, something that looked like dried blood on the floor. Torn lampshades. It was really awful.

Was in Edinburgh Scotland for the weekend. Hotel was decent but then the rugby teams showed up. There was a tournament that weekend. Those fackers never slept, partied all night long. When I went to breakfast they were there slamming beers with their disgusting blood sausages. I have no idea how anyone was capable of playing rugby that day, they were a mess.

The Spenard Motor Hotel in Anchorage in the 80's. Hotels were expensive as hell, this one was cheap. Lesson learned. The cigarette smoke coming through the walls was suffocating, the only TV channel was porn, rooms in terrible condition. There literally was a police raid on the room next door at 1:00 AM. Someone beat on my door as it was winding down but I ignored it and waited for the door to get kicked in, but they finally left.

I would take you to a fancy hotel with clean towels and Room Service that served Nachos. And the TV would have all the basic cable channels and I would pay extra for HBO
