I know one such occasion of this, but the bride's family paid for everything and the circumstances of the divorce were really sad.

Meh, there's too many women and men that treat marriage as the finish line rather than the starting point. Any two idiots can get married. Actually staying together is the accomplishment.

I blame the "poor sap" for agreeing to pay $50-$100k for a wedding.

My friend had a big wedding and was separated in 10 months. Dumbass knew the wedding was a mistake. All of us hated the chick, but he went through with it anyway. Came to his senses less than a year later.

Many women get very excited about the wedding, but don't think all that much about the marriage that will follow, IMO.

I read that something like 30% of divorcees realized they were with the wrong person before the marriage.

I just never got why people would go through something knowing it's a bad decision. I guess a lot of guys figure they'll never do any better, and a lot of women want that fairytale wedding at any cost.

Damn I was bitching about the $3,000 I spent for our wedding. Guess my wife was right in saying that was actually cheap

Didn't someone post an article about a study that was recently completed that showed the more you spent on your wedding the more likely you were to get divorced?

I know I read it somewhere.

There was something related to that about the amount of the engagement ring. I think $2k was the difference.

That may be skewed due to a smaller sample size.
