A Henry County commissioner requested a few months ago that a local Civil War museum remove its Confederate flags.

But without that symbol, the Nash Farm Battlefield and Museum announced that it can’t conduct its mission properly and will close June 1.

In a Facebook post, the museum’s directors cited the request by District 2 Commissioner Dee Clemmons that all Confederate flags be removed from the museum, in addition to the gift shop, “in an effort not to offend anyone.”

Some commissioner requested a flag cone down, then they decided to shutdown?

Really showed them.

I just really don't get this.

Looking at the website it seems like a lower-middle class venue. Appears to involve all sides of the ethnic spectrum.

If they are taking public dollars maybe the commissioner has some say. Even then though, if it is a real battle site then let it stay.

I am not saying I support this or anything, but I don't understand why people say this.

The Great Depression is part of history and I don't see monuments of charts showing the stock market tanked. Does that mean it didn't happen? Removing a statue or monument doesn't erase history. Read books on the subject and gain more knowledge about it, that will do more to preserve its history than anything.

Removing statues doesn't erase history. But it does revise it. Because the action does oversimplify the context of a period of time which is difficult to compare to today's moral fabric.

Closing the museum now lets them act like martyrs/victims.

"Yep, we were doing real good. Had folks standing in line to get in. Then the dadburn liberals started in about the flag and such."

Maybe they weren't making much money anyway.

Excellent. History has and should not have any influence on the future. Well done I say. There is nothing we can learn from past mistakes.
