Tinted taillights are a legitimate complaint. I can't stand these frickers who reduce their visibility to other drivers, especially during poor visibility conditions (fog or rain).

I always tint my vehicles for the appearance as well as function (heat reduction). The really dark limo tint is unnecessary and can also be dangerous (I've had it, and it's tough to see at night). My typical is 35% front sides, and 20% around the rear. Never done the windshield, but have considered doing 50%.

Yeah they do make a 0% shade rating, obviously it's not a black piece of vinyl but it is darker than the 5%. Sometimes too dark, but it's nobodies damn business what's going on inside of my vehicle. Most doctors of optometrist will write a prescription for dark tint. That prescription will get you a medical exemption at the DMV. Form stays in glovebox, presented to police of ever questioned.

Your med exemption does not come from the DMV, and there is no such thing as 0% film that you can see through. Only black vinyl, poly, or black paint. Also there is no such thing as a "shade rating." ALL window tint, no matter what the application is measured by the materials visible lighttransmission levels (VLT). There is even a nifty little equation to determine VLT level since most all automotive glass has some level of VLT. V1 (VLT value of glass) x V2 (VLT value of tint) = V3 (final VLT value).

I've had tint on both my trucks...usually just tell them to match the front windows to the back. Only got ticketed once by some d-bag cop that had it out for me (he gave me a ticket exactly one mont prior on the same road around the same time of day).

If you don't go obnoxiously dark, most cops won't bother you. Also, never get a strip across the windshield, that is a magnet.

Several years ago, I lived in Phoenix. The authorities put out a warning for people taking trips to California. California was cracking down on tinted windows.

Anyone from out of state that got a ticket had to have the tinting removed and bring the vehicle back to California to be inspected. Otherwise, a warrant was issued. You could not just pay the fine and have the matter dropped. The vehicle had to be made legal and have a CHP inspection. Even if you never took the vehicle back into California other than for the inspection.

I usually drive around with a few guns and thousands of rounds of ammo. Don't want people peeping

I get ticketed around once every other year

Going on 3 with no ticket

I wrote myself a medical exemption for tinting beyond legal limit. No ticket for this guy.

How much does window tinting cost?

I am considering all four side windows on a regular sedan. TX legal limit on the front two is 25%. I will probably go 30% for the front two and maybe 15% on the back two.

Looks like there are 4-5 different types of tint available? What is recommended?

I think 5-6 years ago I laid $170 including a sunroof. Somewhere in there. Get it done right.

I do it because direct sunlight in my eyes blinds me but mainly because idiots at night can't remember to dim their lights when coming up behind someone.

After looking at a bunch of pictures, I think I will do either 30% or 35% on all four side mirrors...I think it looks cleaner with all at the same tint. I have a black on black car.

Llumar tint is very highly rated & has a lifetime warranty. I only had mine done by a shop that carried Llumar.

Mine is 20% over factory in the rear, 20% on front side glass, and 80% on my windshield.

I figure if it's legal for cops and elected officials then it must have some safety benefit. Basically if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. I have gotten a few tickets over the years, I even got one when I had a security exemption. News flash, cops don't give a frick about your exemption, you're getting a ticket if they want to give you one.
