Never has been or will be a bigger wrestling star than Hogan. They made a kid's Saturday morning cartoon about him. Doesn't get bigger than that.

I don't know. He's a white rapper with Jean shorts and a fade.
Pretty much a stereotype that plays into the perception wrestling is white trash (that may be an accurate one I don't know)

He made the business as big as it is
I doubt McMahon is a billionaire without hulk hogan
And no one other than Austin and the rock could carry the weight. Every time they tried to build a new star to replace him it didn't work

Austin is the bigger draw but Hogan was the one that allowed McMahon to bring it into the mainstream and make it a national sport rather than a regional one.
wwf isn't a billion dollar company wiithout Hogan. Also, he signed with wcw which then sparked a cable war which saw a resurgence for the "sport"
So many fun arguments could be had with this subject. But, none made it alone.
Without Andre, Hogan wouldn't have been as "important". In wcw, he wouldn't have been "cool" without Hall and Nash.
Austin got to work with Shawn, Rock, Undertaker, Hart, McMahon, Foley etc.
I mean..and Austin was on top, during the most important and hottest time for pro wrestling.
It can be argued that without Hogan there would have been none of it..
But there was a time where it basically died. It was reborn and had to win a whole new audience.

Yeah other guys help make you a star no doubt. And hulk hogan isn't hulk hogan without mcmahon's promotional and marketing talents
Everything is collaborative in entertainment
Having said that. No one was bigger than hulk hogan. He had whatever "it" is. He was a star and also right guy, right place, right time (not unlike Austin)
Hulkamania was lightning in a bottle and I don't think you can recreate that especially since there's no longer a curtain. Everyone knew it was fake but now it's confirmed, social media. People know everything going on backstage...that's a magic that you can't get back or recreate

Fox Mulder, I enjoyed reading your post in this thread.

Here's the other thing too
As much as I liked macho man and Shawn michaels and Bret hart and mankind (when he reinvented himself into Lenny from of mice and men)
None of those guys could carry the whole thing. Hogan and Austin (and to a degree...the rock) could
Nobody would know who the frick they are if it weren't for hulk hogan and Austin. They drew people and so other guys could be discovered by viewers and people in the audience.

this thread is actually kind of a bummer because I think the best shite in entertainment (movies, games, music, whatever) is collaborative and any great collaborative partnership is destined to die
the fish get bigger but the pond stays the same size or maybe people change...I don't know, but all the best shite seems to be collaborative
gary kurtz and George lucas
paul McCartney and john lennon
bill murray and Harold ramis
hulk Hogan and vince McMahon
anytime there's a good thing that relies on 2 people, the clock is ticking so enjoy it while it lasts.

Hogan becoming a bad guy was such a damn good idea that wcw coasted by on that for 2 years. It was always boring.
NWO was pretty much the only thing WCW had going for it

John cena is just as big of face as hogan
John Cena is so gay. Hogan was an infinitely bigger star. He's iconic.
while i agree (because i am an adult) The kids love him like no other.

I will be honest with you, I was never a Hulk Hogan fan. When NWO formed I was pro-NWO and Hogan joined so that was probably the most I ever liked him.
But to your point, good vs evil is always entertainment. And if you look at each one of the groups you mentioned, in one way or another, one was the bad guy, the other was the good guy.

not like Hogan. he was as big a star in the 80s as any pro athlete
Hogan was a star on a rising platform and was famous beyond wrestling. every single person knew who he was and still do...cena is a star on an existing platform and he's only a star within that world
it's not even comparable. there's no apples to apples comparison that can be had. you put Hogan in cena's shoes and he thrives. put cena in Hogan's shoes and nobody knows what the frick WWF even is.

Hogan took professional wrestling from a regional promotion to a national one

art through adversity.
i guess i brought it up because it's something that is missing in 2017. there just doesn't seem to be that shaq/kobe duo. they hate each other, but man they make some great shite.

even steve Austin couldn't do what he did. andre the giant made a tiny dent i suppose, but Hogan made the industry famous while making himself famous. he's one of a kind.
