It's still a damn shame that a rail system between BR & NOLA doesn't exist.

Train + Uber in BR and NOLA + Bike to ride around campus. LSU students won't have to own a car ever again and they get to go to NOLA anytime they want.

trains work very well between DC and Boston...I don't understand why Amtrak can't make deals with the Post Office, UPS, and FedEx to move stuff between points on an electrified train rather than to burn diesel on I-95...

I think it is against federal law for AMTRAK to haul freight. Congress strictly regulates them due to the federal subsidies they receive.

The answer is no. Too expensive to build and not practical give the way most cities are laid out. Exceptions are the northeast and maybe a few area along west coast...maybe.

If they did I wouldn't use them. Public transportation sucks.

So does flying

I think you start small and extend from there. Isn't Houston-Dallas getting one? And the initial costs would be high, but I can't imagine that interstates were cheap to build either (and I know it wouldn't be used nearly as much).

A high speed train system from Dallas-Houston-New Orleans would be amazing for me

The US is cutting funding to Amtrack. China is investing over 100 billion. And some suggest privatization? LOL!

Nothing says exceptional like closing schools and mass transportation.

The Acela between DC and NY is a million time more pleasant and generally much faster than dealing with LGA or JFK

Texas will eventually have high speed train connecting Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio. It may be a while, but it will happen.
