I want to upgrade to at least a Wi-Fi thermostat for the units in our house. Had to reprogram one the other day, and it is a PITA, I really just want to do it via an APP.

Anyone have experience with any of these that you can share?

Reviews are so mixed, there may be 500 five stars, but 100 1 stars on something like a Nest or Honeywell. I always feel like I'll end up being the 1 star guy.

I care less about the device paying for itself as I do just wanting a better mousetrap, so to speak.

Thanks!

This.

I really liked the Nest thermostat in my last home. I found the "learning" or "automatic" feature was kind of sporadic and didn't work to my needs. That said, you can schedule your temps to your personal schedule which was a great feature. The phone app allowed you to get your A/C going hours ahead of time if you are coming home from a vacation or something. Also, if you want to adjust the temp but don't feel like getting out of bed or off your arse, it was great.

New house has a honeywell, which is nice, but doesnt have phone app or as many options.

A friend in the business hates the Nest ... I own Ecobee and it works very well. You are able to install remote probes in other rooms so it knows the temp in more than one room

I would read up on the recent incident in TX where the energy company took control of people's wifi thermostats and raised the temps in their house during an energy shortage.

It seems the authorization to do that was buried deep down in the User Agreement.

Wi-Fi thermostats are great. Learning thermostats are the equivalent of driving your car at the speed those around you think you should drive at.

That’s surprising. I have 2 different Honeywell models (home & work) and they both work through apps. Total connect Comfort for my home & Honeywell Home for my office

2nd vote for Ecobee.
Brand new HVAC system installed 3 weeks ago, came with the Ecobee.
Easy to use, easy schedule setup, easy phone app.

Getting great cost savings based on the new HVAC and the thermostat.
Being able to remotely control the system from the phone app is brilliant.

So called smart homes with similar devices have been limiting the temperature settings on homeowners in areas with power shortages. They can be controlled by the manufacturer or companies they’ve sold access to. Enjoy the convenience, but take a picture of the wiring of your old one before you make the swap and hang on to it. I’ve seen some Facebook Karens cackling about being hot and unable to lower the temperature below 76F.

Got one too. I have sensors in every room which really helps to balance my home's temperature. With a master bedroom pretty much by itself upstairs, and the main thermo downstairs, it allows me to cool accordingly. Without them upstairs was always hot.

Easy to override and you have to opt in on Ecobee. It tells you when it's doing it as well.

Thanks.

You have to opt in and register your thermostat with our provider here for the discount. I don't intend on doing that. I just want a better experience.

Our system is pretty new, I think the thermostats were replaced in 2018 with Honeywell T4 ProSeries devices. We moved the one from the huge open area at the top of the stairs into our bedroom, and it has helped out a lot with temp control. Neither device is "smart," per se. The HVAC company installed them at no charge to us, so they likely are dime a dozen type product.

Honeywell T9 Smart Wif-Fi

Works great, easy to use, simple app functions.
You can program your schedule, and radius from when your phone leaves the area to automatically increase/decrease temperature for home/away.

Can add multiple users on app, in case they have a different schedule. As soon as your/their phone enters the radius (miles) you set your A/C kicks on to temp you set to run. When you leave it goes back up to temp set. Or you can turn off and just control from app when you want. Really cool feature.

Works with google, Alexa, etc.

Had a nest in our last house and now run 3 ecobee's. Between the two for thermostat functionality alone I'd go with Nest. I actually appreciated it's smart learning and most importantly the geofencing feature that detects when you leave or when you are headed back and auto adjusts accordingly. I have schedules setup on all of my thermostats but for a family full of summer activities and changing daily schedules for our boys I would prefer if it noticed that someone was home and adjusted to the comfortable temp setting like the nest does instead of me having to remember not to let it default to 77 because someone's home. Ecobee is great if you have a smart home though. alexa is usually within reach no matter where you are. Hope that helps

I have (3) EcoBee units. The only issue I have is their servers are cloud based and sometimes offline. I frick with the thermostats way more than I should so the convenience is awesome.
