Very few other places give you the opportunity to do anything outdoors basically year round. La does that.

It's all about what's important to you and your family.
Born and raised here and have lived in Dallas and Natchez over the years since 1999. I like being home.

I'm 4 miles from this place.

and this place.

76 miles from this place(Mitch and thugs won't stop us from visiting).

and about 5 minutes from lots of places where my girlfriend can get raw oysters, kids can get gulf-fresh scrimps, and I get good poboys.

Two of my best friends are from Alaska and Minnesota. Both obviously love their respective home states. But both have said they prefer La's year round climate. Alaskan melts in the summer here but he's tired of Alaskas insane weather.

Yeah I have to say I do prefer the heat to the cold. It's nice when the first or second snow of the season hits, but by the time you're past a month into winter, it starts to get really old.

Jan - Mid march = too cold

I got married a few years ago in NOLA in January with a high in the mid 60's while a blizzard moved across the rest of the US.

If you think an average daily temp with a high in the 50's is too cold then you need to move to the equator.

Most of all family, I didn't have two younger bros and a sister I would be gone in a heartbeat.

Saltwater fishing is another.

I grew up in New Orleans, but I'm here because of my wife's family. It helps that the food is excellent as is the inshore fishing.

The heat and humidity, boring geography, significant number of criminals and dumpy towns ultimately put it in the negative column.

I love Louisiana, but unless it sees some type of economic boom or better job opportunities, I'll stay in Texas.

Better jobs and no state income tax for the motherfricking win!

I visited Minneapolis recently and loved it, but that was in May. A good friend of mine lives up there, and she told me that she enjoyed the climate there over living in Louisiana. But, they also had a mild winter this past year.

If Louisiana...well more like New Orleans, had a lot of high paying white collar jobs and a non shitty public school system. I'd move back home, because well at the end of the day it is still home.

As much as I miss my folks, the negatives for me in particular outweigh the positives.

I get my three weeks fill of home every year though.

I travel alot and there is good and bad EVERYWHERE....No place is perfect.
If you really pay attention there is no place lime Louisiana in the States..it is a unique, beautiful, good place with good people. Most other places I go are cookie cutter with a few unique pieces to them, but not much. I am grateful to be here and may leave when the kids go to college, but will always keep a place hete, and gladly spend a large portion of my time here...

The Heat and horrible job market are the biggest detractors, a horrible government and school system is up there as well.

boring geography

The swamps and wetlands have a haunting beauty, but the flat coastal plains are just so uninspiring.

Got to work in Colorado for a summer and didn't want to put my camera down.

The nine-parish Baton Rouge area is projected to add about 4,500 jobs in 2017 and 4,500 more in 2018, which is more in absolute terms than any other metro region in Louisiana. In percentage terms—1.1% per year—it puts Baton Rouge at No. 2 in projected job growth behind Lake Charles, which is expected to see job growth of 3.6% in 2017 and 2% in 2018.

Both Baton Rouge and Lake Charles are the only two areas in the state experiencing such growth, and both economies are being propelled by the ongoing industrial construction boom. More than $38 billion worth of new construction or expansion projects have been announced for chemical companies along the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Of those, more than $10 billion are underway or have been completed.

Send your kids to the excellent Catholic/private schools in and around New Orleans.

Even if I moved out of LA I'd send my kids to a private school rather than public if possible.

Recently moved back due to young kids. This place is depressing and too damn hot. Already regretting it.

Why would someone live here by choice?

1. It never really gets cold. Some years, I'm playing baseball in shorts in January. Can't do that most other places in America.

2. The food.

3. The boating/fishing

4. The drinking/party culture

5. It's where my entire extended family lives

While that would indeed be the plan IF I moved back home. I can move 5 minutes up the road and send my kids to a Frisco ISD or move 15 minutes up the road and send them to a McKinney ISD for free and get a better education than most catholic schools in the Metro area.
