That shite is just speed, and high school kids are starting to gobble them like candy. It's not just a college epidemic anymore.

It's not legal if they don't have a script

This is a trend I just can't get into. I tried it once and really didn't like it at all.

I guess with any drug kids are telling other kids how great it is and they are trying it and think because it comes from a doctor it's safe.

Yeah but it being legal with a script for underage kids makes it very easy for high schoolers to get their hands on it. There's a very high ceiling for abuse with it and even though it seems like a gateway drug, it can be just as dangerous as much harder stuff if abused.

It should be the LAST resort when it comes to treating ADHD.

I think I have only 3 kids on it out of the 700 or so patients I am currently treating.

Adderall is the most potent stimulant and has the highest "drug liking" effect of any chemical you can prescribe. It is the most abused, most sold, and most diverted drug in the class.

Sometimes it is required because nothing is potent enough to get "little johnny" to a level of academic and social stability. But it should always be a last resort to any prescribing physician.

I am not for it's banning but I am for pill mill doctors getting their practices shut down for overuse of it.

At the very least, the pill mill peds and primary care docs that prescribe it should be required to perform a UA before refilling.

My parents would have never put me on it, but I am ADD. I took a vyvanse while studying in college and it just calmed me down. Instead of thinking of EVERYTHING I had to do, I focused on the task at hand. I'm still not prescribed, so don't take it, but, I can see how it could help out.

Kids that are 8 and on it is ridiculous. They're not paying attention and are being hyper? Guess what, that's an 8 yr old for you.

See, because I actually need it, I don't understand the high some people get from it. Adderall is a downer for me, it puts my mood on the floor, I almost get depressed when I'm on it.

It works as it's designed to if you have real diagnosed adhd, But I think that is over diagnosed and if you don't need it, it's the best speed you can get.

fortunately they are slowing starting to develop non narcotic ADHD medicine but like everything else Big Pharma hates to lose money. See weed still being schedule 1

Much like methadone, for those with the inability to cope.

It's better than Ritalin, which I was on from 5-9. Ritalin is a major growth depressant, doctors estimated it cut roughly 3-4 inches off my height. I'm lucky I got to 5'10.

My childs psychiatrist went straight to the non-stimulant meds when my son was diagnosed severe adhd and I'm glad he did. I wasn't aware of their existence at the time. I don't know if they work better than stimulants but, with some hard work on his part, he does just fine on them and that's what we're sticking with.

We ate it up in high school back in '98 and I was saying the same thing as you.

I was diagnosed ADD but quit taking meds in 9th grade. Never did much for me. Then about sophomore of college year, my roommate had an Adderall prescription. It was nothing short of a miracle for me. I completely do not understand the recreational aspect. That is totally lost on me. It changed my world when it came to studying though. I only ever took it at midterms and finals, since I found it difficult to really have enough focus for that many exams in such a short period. It certainly is something I can see taking a toll on your body (sleeplessness, etc.).

If I was on it now, I'd never be on this site....I'd actually be working....haha.

It's also partly the teacher's fault. They aren't wanting to deal with hyper kids, so they make them get on meds. Saw it firsthand with my brother's step son. 6 years old and at a child psychologist. How ridiculous is it when a teacher can't get control of a hyper 6 yr old

You obviously don't have ADD. I can tell you this: it has changed my life. I'll fully admit that a large percentage of those taking it don't need it (hell, maybe the vast majority), but for those of us that do, it's difficult to go without it.

I don't get the "speed" effect from it that most describe. I don't get a rush or a high. It is my understanding that among those who really need it, it affects the chemistry of the brain differently than among those who don't. I'm not a neurologist, I just know that it works for me.

I don't take adderall, but instead Vyvanse, which has the same active ingredients but uses a different delivery method (supposedly it cuts down on the rate of abuse).

Background- I'm in my mid-30s, have taken many iterations of these drugs over the years, I don't have an abusive personality, and have spent long periods as an adult without medication... and those periods have taught me that I need it.

Why is alcohol? That shtt is truly dumb.

Amphitimines help ppl who truly need them.
