Because they tend to pick and choose when they want to be a part of our country or not. They only consider themselves part of the US if it benefits them.

You asked a question, I provided an answer. I can't help it if you're too lazy to read it.

I think most territories have separate Olympic Teams.

Just scrolling through the participating National Olympic Committees on the wikipedia page... American Samoa (U.S.), Aruba (Netherlands), Bermuda (UK), British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands (UK), Cook Islands (I think New Zealand), Guam (U.S.), Hong Kong (China), Puerto Rico (U.S.) and Virgin Islands (U.S.). And probably a few others that I scrolled through too fast.

Nope, I've done all I'm going to do. The rest is up to you. Use it as a learning experience on the value of self-motivation.

I have a number of PR friends.....and 10000x this.

They don't really regard themselves as Americans except in the sense that someone from Columbia considers themselves an American: in that passive aggressive way that calls US citizens self absorbed for using a continental phrase to call themselves that they feel they have equal title to.

Also trashes a lot of US policy

But they wouldn't give up US citizenship for *anything*

I've learned to stay away from politics with them.

Also, in soccer, they do even more of this. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all have separate soccer teams.

I think these organizations base it upon what you consider a nation and what you consider a nation-state. A nation is just a group of people with a separate identity and geography. A nation-state is the right of those people to govern themselves as their own country. The IOC and FIFA are more flexible with allowing nations as opposed to just nation-states compete separately.

Can we move all the feminists there? Sounds like they would be right at home.
