Why does life go by so fast

It seems like when you are in school (high school, college, grad school) life is moving at such a slow pace. You are young and things can not happen fast enough. Anything is possible and it is exciting. You have all the time in the world to accomplish your goals and dreams.
Then you leave college and once you start working it is like the 'life' fast forward button is stuck on the 4X speed. Sure you have fun outings such as ski trips, sporting events, great vacations, and big purchases but life is still passing by at an extremly fast rate. You sit in disbelieve because it is already time for your 10, 20, or 30 year class reunion. You see people you once knew and they look so much older than what you last remembered. You attend too many funerals and it does not seem like it has been that many years since loved ones have passed away. You see old pictures of yourself or friends and you are stunned about how young everyone looks. There is never enough time to do everything.

I've wondered the same thing. I'm sure someone has written a book or something about this phenomenon.
My best guess is that it has something to do with the fact that, as you get older, increments of time become a smaller and smaller % of your life.
I.e., when you were 10 years old, 1 year was 10% of your entire life. When you're 40 years old, 1 year is 2.5% of your entire life.

It's called "Frame of reference"...
When you are young a year seems like a long time since you've only experienced a handful of them.
When you are 60, a year goes fast because you've already experienced 59 of them.
All you can do is love the people you care about and let them know it. Don't worry about how fast the ride is accelerating, just hold on tight.

because as you get older, each year tht goes by feels shorter and shorter.
So if youre 10 years old, one year is 10% of the amount oif time youve been on Earth and therefore feels longer even though its really the same amount of time. when youre 40 tho, a year is only 2.5% of the amount of time youve been on earth and thus feels quicker.

life does go by in a blink but just wait until you have kids it feels like you are in warp speed. cherish the moments while you can

Relativity. When you are young, a year is a significantly longer portion of what time you have experienced so far, as you get older, it is more and more minuscule, so it seems like it is going by faster.

I've wondered if life goes by fast when you are having a good time, and slowly when you are having a bad time.
It's like a good move that you are really into, goes by fast. One you don't like takes forever to end.
