And neither one of you are Gen X

I'm a founding member of Gen X.

Source?
In the book Generations by Strauss and Howe - They put Generation X between 1961-1981 - twenty years - the average for a generation.
Some early sample members they list are:
Michael J Fox 1961
Eddie Murphy 1961
Jon Bon Jovi 1962
Roger Clemens 1962
Tom Cruise 1962

No one says "Gen Y", they say Millennials
These are two very different things.
I am Gen Y and I assure you we are not the ones responsible for the rise of the Hillary and SJW types. Those would be the millennials you speak of.

Not necessarily based on years. Economic events, social change and technological advances weigh more than time.

GenX is 65-82.
That makes them all equal.

No they are actually different names for the same generation.

Look millennial, there's nothing to disagree about. You can't pick your generation based on how you feel. The fact you're even arguing about it proves you're a millennial. If you want to call it Gen Y, that's fine.

Years for generations are determined by birth rate. The "Baby Boom" ended in 1964...then a much lower number of births occurred 1965-79. Then another baby boom started around 1980, so it was time for a new generation to be designated.

Baby boomers are 1946-1964 (18 yrs)
Gen X 1965-1976 (11 yrs)
Gen Y 1976-2001 (24 yrs)
Gen Y seems to encompass the most amount of time of any generation.
You have the silent generation mixed in with Baby boomers. Now many people have different ideas what constitutes a generation but historically when Gen X was being named it was 1961 to 1981. Millennials were suppose to be the first generation that graduates starting year 2000.

Pretty simple test to know if you are Gen X. Did you or any of your friends ever own a pair of parachute pants? If you have to Google then you are definitely a millenial.
