Been in five cabs, all have it.

Was there a point in time where people were confused and thought killing them was a lesser offense or something?

I can only imagine the amount of people who have sat in the back contemplating it, then seeing the sign and changing their minds.

They changed the law.

It used to be just a misdemeanor in New Orleans.

I don't think those signs are accurate but I could be wrong. And you shouldn't believe any legal advice a cab driver tells you anyway

They added cab drivers as a protected class under the 1st degree murder statute a couple of years ago.

quote:

(10) When the offender has a specific intent to kill or to inflict great bodily harm upon a taxicab driver who is in the course and scope of his employment. For purposes of this Paragraph, "taxicab" means a motor vehicle for hire, carrying six passengers or less, including the driver thereof, that is subject to call from a garage, office, taxi stand, or otherwise.

It was already first degree to intentionally kill someone while engaged in a robbery or kidnapping, so that covered 99.99% of cabdriver murders.

Legislators like to add unnecessary special shite like that to pretend to help constituent groups. It just clutters up the books and makes our laws look retarded.

They'll probably add pizza delivery drivers and volunteer pet rescuers next. And act like it was legal to gun them down before the great leg acted to protect them.

Killing a cabbie in the same course of events as armed robbery of the cabbie is Murder One.
