You have never been to the eastern caribbean on a cruise, obviously. The Bahamas stops are a hot mess. Freeport is a place I will never return. I may go back if the cruise was totally free but even then I would not get off the ship in Freeport and Nassau wasn't much better.
Now, if you are talking about the ABC islands, then yes, those are probably amazing but that's considered Southern Caribbean in cruise talk.
The Western Caribbean stops are not all that nice, either, but you can find tons of amazing excursions and the prices are far cheaper than in the Bahamas. Roatan blew my mind and the excursion we did in Cozumel was incredible. If you just walk around the ports then yes, any place will look touristy and trashy but you have to do your research and know which excursions/tours to take.

The number of restaurants amazes me. There's 10 on every block

You do realize they dump all your garbage into the ocean off the back of the ship at night? Everything but plastic. Including aluminum cans, cardboard, food, canned food, paper bags. Everything but plastic. Trashy as frick.

Seeing Kathie Lee sing that song a million times as a kid drilled it in me that Carnival cruises are geared to to rednecks who wanted to be "fancy" and impress their dumbass friends.
I was eventually bullied into going on one. It was even worse than I expected.
"If they could see you now, right on a fun ship cruise, eating fancy food and doing what you choose. I'd like your friends back home to get a good look, at the first rate Carnival cruise that you took. All I can say is Wow! Hey look at where you are. Tonight you're living, Pow! Just like a movie star. On a fun ship, holy cow. They'd never believe it, if your friends could see you now. ... They won't believe that you are such a good sport, buying all those gifts in a tropical port. Etc."
I have to say that old Kathie Lee was pretty hot back in those days.

Yes, my bad. I meant Southern Caribbean.
I went on a short eastern cruise when I graduated high school and even then my simpleton arse though that freeport and naussau sucked.
Seriously though, I am still considering a disney cruise. I think my kids would enjoy.
It's either that or fly to San Juan and go south out of there or go to Alaska from Seattle.
Not sold on the idea yet though.
