Why do universities hire professors that students can't understand?

I am all for professors from all over the world, and by all means, universities should get the smartest people from the world to teach in their classes. If students can't understand them due to their accents, what is the point?

In my experience, I have had professors that had all of the knowledge in the world, but I could not understand what the frick they were saying. Why do universities do this?

Educating undergrad students is relatively low on a big state school’s list of priorities

Sometimes the University prefers a professor who brings in grant money and doesn't care what the students think of them.

Because usually the teaching aspect is not their concern

I dropped a few classes at LSU because I couldn't understand a damn thing the professor was saying. Looked for an American sounding name for a replacement

Professors get paid to do research, not to teach. If you want to be taught, go to a community college.

They aren't there to teach. It's just something they make them do.

Man I'm getting old. We didn't really have the internet when I started LSU. We registered for classes over the phone with Reggie

I know I dropped at least 2 classes because I could not understand the professors. One class being computer science and the other anthropology, I think.

They have better credentials than American professors.

I don't really remember when we had internet registration but maybe not at all during my first degree from LSU. You had to just sit on the phone and hit redial for an hour or two until you got through.

And for the money we pay for education, it damned well should be a priority.
