Its just easier for them. It’s either a car, a truck, or a van to most ppl

The Expedition/Suburban class is what I think of when I hear SUV. No, it’s not a truck. Anything smaller is just a normal car.

The acronym CUV was commonly used to describe the car based utility vehicles. Seems to have fallen out of favor.

Full size, body on frame, SUVs are trucks.

Your Equinox is not.

This is a suburban and hence why I refer to it as a truck.

Traditional SUVs were built on truck frames. When they went to unibody they were supposed to be called CUV.

First off, as a preface, for the record, I don't get outraged when someone calls an SUV a "truck" and it has no impact on my blood pressure and mood. It's just a casual and inconsequential annoyance – a curiosity more than anything.

But you started a whole thread for this ting you don't care about?

To be fair 4Runners are still built on a truck chassis, so they are trucks.

Vernacular changes over time, it's not worth it getting worked up over, but the OT is "the place" for getting worked up over bullshite, so I understand your attempt to head that shite off at the pass.....but you had to know it was a futile attempt. Oh well, I do the same thing from time to time as well. 99% of the posters here are caught up in a never-ending big brother vs little brother kind of battle. Sometimes it's kinda funny, sometimes it's not, it gets old but whatever. Here's my take on the usage of the word truck.

This is a truck, 100%.

This is also a truck.

These are also trucks.

Here's a picture of what I call a "pick-up truck", or a "pickup", commonly referred to as a truck.......not wrong, but it's clearly very different from the above.

I took this photo in Silverton, CO after riding the train up there one day. This is a beautiful green/gold long-bed Ford pick-up truck. You can also see the bed of a newer model Tundra I believe, with the bed cap on it, and way ahead there is a new GMC pick-up truck.

People just call 'em trucks now, it's accepted, has been for a long time. I drive a Silverado and on my vehicle title under "body type" it has the code "PK" for pick-up, I suppose if I had a title for a International Durastar it would say "TR" for truck. People call SUV's trucks now, it's kinda silly, doesn't fit, but there's no stopping it. I consider them mini-vans, but no one calls them that, and we all know why. This is America, the country that is the most afraid of other people thinking it has a little dick. Everything about these United States is based off of this "Little Dick" syndrome. Just get yerself a sarsaparilla and take off yer boots if yer coming inside. Enjoy the ride. Try not to get shot.

The only ones I've heard refer to a SUV as a truck are black people I work with. I just assumed it was a black thing.

I used to get pissed off when people called 3 wheeler and 4 wheelers as ATVs. I wrote it off as Yankees that smoked poles for a living.

I still think shotgun when people say side by side.

My wife gets highly annoyed when I call any of ours a truck. But I’m not saying SUV. And it isn’t a car either. It’s built on a car frame but to me a car is a coupe or sedan. Basically if it is taller and you don’t have to lean down to get into it I call it a truck. Especially since I know it annoys her.

Never understood this either. The only people that I heard say this are the certain type who are known to live across the tracks..

Pretty much every grizzled redneck mechanic I've ever interacted with calls SUVs "trucks" - so if they do it, far be it from me to get annoyed by it

Granted, I've only ever had real SUVs so I'm not sure if they say the same to every Highlander that they see
