Because most of them are built on truck chassis would be my guess. A Ford Expedition is just an F-150 station wagon.

Makes zero sense. Trucks have a bed. SUVs do not.

It would’ve felt weird referring to one of several Rodeos or my Tahoe as a car.

Damn, thought everybody knew this: Early on in the beginning w SUV's, insurance companies classed them as Trucks. It stuck.

It's that simple - it's an industry term.

It's actually a tractor.

I don't disagree, it is a tractor, especially that style, but they're most well known as trucks because I would assume many people would get confused and think the name tractor refers to one of these:

Most of my position is simply this; language changes over time and I think the word "truck" is continually getting applied to an ever wider style of vehicles because people have an idea of what a truck does and is used for, and if they feel their vehicle does truck stuff and is used for truck stuff then they're calling it a truck. Also, add in the Tiny Dicked Ones who have attached their identity to "driving a truck" and before you know it.......everything is a truck.

Pick up trucks have a bed. An El Camino has a bed, it's a car.

I call my wife's 4wd suburban a truck. Makes way more sense than saying "let's go kids, get in moms car" it's definitely not a car.

I do not refer to my suv as a truck, but I do refer to the gun inside of said suv as "truck gun" because "suv gun" sounds dumb.

Based on your down vote/up vote ratio, a lot of people here call SUVs trucks.

My two girls who are 8 and 4 refer to my wife’s (no pics) 4Runner as “moms car” so that’s what I call it when I’m talking to them about it. I just refer to it as the 4Runner otherwise.

I’d bet most kids call mom’s vehicle “mom’s car” more than anything else.

They call my F150 a truck tho.

I have a Bronco. What am I supposed to call it? It feels kinda gay to say "I gotta get something out of my Bronco"

Body on frame vehicles are usually truck based in the US. It’s basically a truck with enclosed area. Wagoneer/Ram 1500, Expedition/F150, Tahoe/Silverado, Sequoia/Tundra, 4Runner/Tacoma.
