Why do people have to turn the Christmas season into part of the "culture war"

Our neighbor has already put her "keep Christ in Christmas" bumper sticker on her car and has started to complain about commercialism, the phrase "happy holidays", the loss of colored lights etc. why can't some people just enjoy the season for what it is?

Because a lot of Americans are stupid.

Tell her Christmas is a pagan holiday, and that she should keep her "Christ" out of Christmas.

Well, I, too, would be mad if my holy holiday was taken over by soviet-style materialists. A day of moral goodness has been turned into nihilist junk accumulation.
It has become a holiday of serving man's luxurious wants, rather than a holiday of serving our king.

Some people like to complain. They probably do it all the time, but you notice it more this time of the year.
How other's decide or not decide to celebrate Christmas does not affect my family's enjoyment one way or another.

People are always looking for something to bitch about

A pagan inspired, commercialized shopping fest?

It is kinda lame when marketers use traditional christmas characters to promote anything other than christmas. Other than that it doesn't really bother me.

Soo... you're basically complaining about her complaining?

Absolutely. Plus when I look at pictures from the 1950s it looked like my parents got a ton of gifts back then too. Everyone wanted that new radio flyer wagon or scwhinn 10 speed.

Loss of colored lights? Guess I wasn't aware of this being religiously motivated.

Eh, I'm complaining about everything being turned into a political battlefield.

I can never tell when you're serious.

She probably thinks that December 25th is Jesus's birthday

People like to bitch about anything

I'm thinking some eggnog right now would help me get into the spirit.
and some colored lights, dammit.

The same people who complain about commercialism complain about "happy holidays" instead of "merry christmas" in those same commercial ads they claim to abhor.
Fun history lesson to make heads explode: The Puritans considered Christmas to be an ungodly holiday, and banned it's observance, with fines and imprisonment for offenders.

I'm an atheist but I love Santamas. Can't wait for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert. It really puts me in the mood.
