eh. I could understand if you work for a big corporate company that monitors that stuff. Private ones usually don't.

This is the most baby boomer mindset thing ever.

Thank god they are retiring/kicking the bucket. They have some of the worst and most inefficient ways to run an office.

My generation doesn't give a frick as long as you do your stuff and do it correctly/promptly. Flex days, business casual, denim, etc... That was all our idea, not your old asses.

My boss: if you can't do your job from your phone, I've hired the wrong person.

old boss: BY GOLLY GEORGE EVERYONE BETTER BE IN THE OFFICE 40 HOURS A WEEK 8 TO 5 OR THEY ARE STEALING FROM THE COMPANY!!!1!! OH AND NO INTERNETZ ITS BAD

Because as long as I get my work done, it does not matter. It also helps that I do not mind putting in extra time "after hours" to catch-up, AND I am the one that gets the reports about computer activity.

is staying on the site registered the same way with IT as being active on the site?

This depends. I have seen 2 types of reports for internet usage. One report will give you the number of clicks on a particular site, the other one will give the amount of time a site is "active". If you have it hidden, it won't register. Or, if you have it on your second screen while working on an excel document, it won't register. However, every time you click/tab over to reactivate the site, it registers as a "new click" in the other report.

My phone is also company-supplied.

I make the rules. So it's OK for me to do it.

Maybe one day you'll make the rules at your workplace.

Then you can exclude checking TD on work computers.

Because I am IT..plus my boss doesn't care what we look at as long as it's not porn or we don't spend all our time dicking off on the internet.

It's blocked at my work bc SOMEBODY would leave it up for hours at a time even when he wasn't on. Threw up a red flag I suppose. Thanks bud. You know who you are

In the auto industry...me being on TD is probably number 152 on the list of things people do that are frowned upon.

1. Raspberry pi that you keep in your desk drawer
2. Splitter that allows your mouse/keyboard/monitor to toggle between it and your work computer.
3. ???
4. Profit

My company would literally flip a shite if I tried to access this site. It's literally (and I hate this term) the most SJE/politically correct institution that you could imagine a real business being. Like whose the diversity person of the week. Which sucks because we are an affiliate of the parent company and our actual department is super super super conservative so it drives them absolutely insane.

I did laugh recently when I saw that our company had named a diversity person of the year and it was a very very very attractive blonde.
