I use both a safety razor and a disposable...just depends on how much time I have...in that sense disposables work just fine.

Trying to rush my way through a shave with my safety razor means the need for a blood transfusion.

I use Feathers and now that I am experienced I run it around my face like a disposable.

I use feather blades and there's no doubt I can make one pass a lot faster than with a cartridge. I may be a bit slower overall due to using a brush and making two passes. But now that I've been doing it for a few years, I can fly once I get to actual shaving.

Just browsing thru this thread and I see two different shaving razor ads at the bottom.

Chicken getting ad revenues!

I buy a 20 Schick Xtreme 3 Blade for $20. Lasts me 2 weeks, or 50c a week. Acceptable shave with my barbasal can cream.

For me it's a time thing. Step out the shower, rewet my face, quickly lather, zip zip zip - one pass, towel off, and finished before your badger brush is loaded.

Have an old 1960 Gillette fat boy. About four times a year, usually on a lazy Sunday morning, I use it. 2 lathers and passes, and my face is smoother than the proverbial babies arse! Love it. But cannot spend that much time on workdays.

How much more time do you really think it takes you though?

They became popular because everyone needed to speed up life... it was marketed as a safer faster way to shave.

I haven't used a cartridge razor in over 2 years.
The cost savings is something I considered when I first started shaving with a safety razor, but I soon realized shaving with a safety razor was something I really enjoyed and I take my time and enjoy my shaves a lot more now. I have more shave gear / creams / soaps then I ever would have had if I would have stayed with cartridges.

So for me the safety razor is more expensive but I enjoy my time especially weekends when I can spend extra time getting a really nice shave.

I remember the disposable razor days of my youth and I don't care to go back.

I'm only 35.

Maybe I just learned the technique when I got to feathers. They are supposed to be the sharpest, so they have the Rep for being easiest to cut you. I personally have never had an issue. Love shaving against the grain with a new blade. One blade lasts me about 5 shaves.

I don't know. You ever try to shave your balls with one of those? I remember I tried this when I was like 12. Terrible fricking idea. Pubes and blood everywhere.

Sorry for delay; got busy.
Two completely different things. Workday is sleeping as late as possible and leaving house before traffic gets bad. If tried to use safety razor I would bleed daily. Especially under nose and on chin.

Breaking out the fat boy is for pleasure. Similar to wife soaking herself in baths salts compared to quick but effective shower. Damn lost all pics of wife!

It's sensual art like a Japanese tea ceremony. Creating and enjoying texture and smell of lather. Caress of lather and brush bristles. Slow and careful slide of sharp blade. Repeat with counter grain shave. Face has a healthy clean tingling and wife will snuggle. Still can't find those damn pics!

Ruthless efficiency versus extended pleasure. Pleasing outside world (duty) versus pleasing yourself (gift). Get one and use it when time means nothing!

I finally bought a safety razor, brush and some good shaving cream. I actually enjoy shaving now. Got the razor for $17 @ wal-mart to to try it out. I liked it so I went ahead and bought a badger brush, shaving soap and Astra razors on amazon.

I'm all in for $50. Should only have to replace blades and cream. Which I can get 100 blades and a tub of soap for around $25.

I enjoy cutting myself because the pain is the only thing that's real.
