My dad, who doesn't drink, can't wrap his head around plant shift workers getting off at 6:30 AM and going to a restaurant to eat boiled crawfish and drink beer. "How can you drink beer at 7 AM?!" When I tell him that it's evening to them he says "It doesn't matter. It's still 7 AM!" He's never heard the phrase "its 5 o'clock somewhere" I guess. Some people just can't accept people who are different from them in any way.

i agree with the lady. in fact, i would've slapped that beer right out of ur hand.

Are you being serious? If an adult decides he or she wants to drink, it doesn't matter what time of day it is, they have the right to do so and it's no one else's business whether they do it or not.
Now, if it causes a problem then that's one thing, but some people are not comfortable with flying or prefers to have something of their choice to make the flight go smoother for them, as long as it is legal then it really isn't anyone's business.
Maybe the old woman was concerned she would be sitting by someone who would be sloppy drunk in a hour, but a beer every 30 minutes isn't getting anyone sloppy drunk. If she is the type who had to let everyone know she was a teacher, chances are.. she was just some drama queen.

Had something similar happen to me on a plane, only it was some ugly bastard with his GF.
My response was:
"Did I ever tell you about the time I broke my arm?"
"No?"
"Yeah, I was patting myself on the back for minding my own fricking business."
At least his GF giggled.

Agreed. I don't know of someone having an allergic reaction to shrimp from a distance. How would it get there? It doesn't have dust like cracked peanut shells.
My son has a peanut allergy, but I wouldn't tell anyone what they could order, I'd just avoid the restaurants that do the peanuts on the table. Those people like this woman are self-centered assholes.
