taking kids to places where they can explore is the greatest vacation imo. used to love finding little places under docks/boardwalks, in rock formations and caves, hollowed out trees, etc. one time we found this giant concrete structure half-buried in the ground. it became our giant fort and we played in the tunnels for days. thats the kind of shite i remember.

Have you tried taking young kid on some of these outdoor adventures?

We taken our little one to Sedona, and there's very little for her to do there. Yes we can do little hikes we enjoy the sights but there were a lot of age restrictions on the think she was able to do. Going to Chattanooga later this summer andshe is too young to go white water rafting. It doesn't mean that we won't try these things and expose her to different opportunities, but a lot of places just have restrictions on kids under certain ages.

Who can argue with this? I can't. And I feel the same way to an extent.

Before we had our son, we went to Europe twice, napa valley, new york, etc. And we'll continue to make those kinds of trips as often as we can. But as long as I can afford it, I'm going to disney every 3 years or so. Why? Nostalgia... My son growing and allowing him to have new experiences there... and I just like it. I like the food. I like the disney races. I like the water parks. I like the service.

I think the OP is talking about the people that ONLY go to DW every year.

This thread comes up at least once a month and it's the same people saying the same shite. People like what they like. I've taken my girls all over the country in their 17 and 14 years. The only place they actually ask us to go back to is Disney so we go once a year. My wife and I actually went last year without them for the Food and Wine Fest. Life is just to fragile to be worrying about what other people do for vacation of all things.

Same here. We do go to Disney once a year, but we also do a second vacation elsewhere. Last year it was the Smoky Mountains, and we're still deciding where to go this year. We also love going to beaches, and our daughter loves the water so much she thinks she's a mermaid... one that can't swim yet though.

From what I have read and heard from others, Disney cruises are great for kids that enjoy Wdw as a bridge from about seven or eight years old to about 12 or 13 years old. Doesn't mean you shouldn't go back to Disney World during that time, but again they're just too young to handle the walking in on a cruise it's a lot less physical activity for them. So what a lot of people of done it's been like a day or two in the Parks then cruise, then come back and maybe do another day or two in the Parks . We're taking our first Disney cruise this June, and we booked a DreamWorks Royal Caribbean cruise out of Galveston next Mardi Gras, so hopefully she enjoys these as much she enjoyed the first cruise we took her on.

I like remote beach vacations and traveling the world as well, but I also understand that those things are just a viable vacation option for me and my family every time we want to do something. So all those things surely fit into our calendar and planning but it doesn't mean that I can't enjoy Disney as well. I don't think people have to be divided so decisively into either being a Disney freak or only getting waterfront bungalow in Fiji. There's a lot of room for both options and plenty of opportunities for crossover and it's okay to like both and do both.

Well Fiji is pretty exotic

And you do whatever you want, its all good. We are all different.

I personally don't like crowds and I don't have enough money to do both DW and other vacations anyway.

I'm under 30 and we easily make in the top 10% income in the country. We do okay. I can afford more than the average person. I cannot however afford to take multiple vacations per year without making terrible financial decisions.

I try my absolute best not to try to convince anyone to go to Walt Disney World, because I truly believe that if you don't want to be there you shouldn't go. I also believe that there's just a lot of different people I do go to Walt Disney World and can enjoy it. Like some of us have said time and time again, it's very possible to go to Disney World with regularity and takes other sorts of vacations as well. The fact of the matter is, Disney has set the standard in family vacations and resources and tools to accommodate those with certain disabilities, requests, or difficulties with their personal situations. They really can accommodate anyone who wants to go.

And with a lot of families, you just won't find that anywhere else. You can't find a place that the kids absolutely love to go and look forward to for months or years in advance, yet grandpa can still go play golf three days a week, and grandma and fat cousin in there ECv can still get around without difficulty. Some people can sleep in in the morning by the pool, while others are up at the crack of dawn doing roller coasters until he puke up the Mickey Mouse waffles. Aunt can go get a massage, what uncle goes on a morning run then they all meet up for an afternoon show with unbelievable talent somewhere. And you can do all this without anyone needing to drive or having the need of a car at a budget that most people can afford. Is it for everyone, no certainly not. And while I don't think I would want to go every single year as my only vacation I can understand why some people do.

for me, what I find most annoying is that everyone just assumes that if you have kids, you have to go to DW

ever since we had our daughter, we get constantly asked when we are taking her

its like its the ONLY place you can take kids for vacation

that is what I find most annoying

You're missing something. Disney is an awesome place to go on vacation. They have plenty of things to interest just about anyone from ages 4 through adulthood. And on top of that, the service, no matter where you go there, is top shelf all the way. Seriously, if you go to Disney and don't have a good time, you need to get checked for depression or something.

I hear you, that age is really hard. Then they get a little older and can understand and want to do those things like maybe zip lining kayaking but they just can't because places won't let them until they're older. And like you, we won't avoid those vacations and will try to expose her to pieces here or there, but just like the wife and a trip to Hawaii next year, I just know that it's not financially feasible for us to take a six-year-old when so much of what we want to do she can't Do or won't enjoy.

some of the beauty in Disney is that, I'll be at manufactured, it does allow for variance of activities that different people can enjoy all on the same vacation

I understand, and I think a lot of people are in the same boat as you. They don't dislike Disney or hate Disney they dislike or hate the thought or idea about Disney that is often times off-base and just not correct with how things really are and can be.
