I think people look down upon trashy people, more so than blue collar workers. It just so happens that a larger portion of trashy people work blue collar jobs vs white collar.

I would never look down upon someone because of their job, there are so many other reasons to look down on people

ETA: the amount of money you make doesn't determine if you're trashy. There are many OFT people who bring in six figures, but are trashier than an account or nurse making 60k.

Of course here on the OT everything will be looked down upon.

Some people make a good living working hard and enjoy life. Not everyone goes to college nor should they. I have no problem with people who work hard for living.

fricking right. One of my best friends will be finishing up his masters in that this year. That's a great field to go in. Although from what he has told me, seems like the better jobs will require him to leave LA.

My company is a blue collar company. The only two things on your list we deal with are in bold.

A lot of people like working on different jobs and projects. I certainly wouldn't want to be in your boring cubicle all day.

Working early in the morning has its benefits. By the time a lot of you finish lunch my guys are on the way home.

Please explain this? I'll bet I take more exotic trips in a year or two than you take in 10.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. They're a sensitive lot.

Now the idea of working in a shop, working with wood all day at my own pace and setting my own schedule sounds like a dream.

Got a buddy that graduated with me from Auburn that did this years ago. He makes speciality furniture, cabinets, and other carpentry things for businesses and high end homes. He loves it and makes a decent living.

ETA: I hated working in a cubicle and doing sales. Quit and joined an electrical apprenticeship at age 41. Plan to run my own business as soon as I can get my license. It's never too late.

How is he an elitist? All he said is that he doesn't want a blue collar job.

Are the blue collar guys who say they would kill themselves if they had to work in a cube also elitist?

I didn't see it that way. I saw him putting people down and judging yen by their lifestyle.

Then he made the assumption that I'm a blue collar worker which is amusing. I employ blue collar workers and respect them and the work they do.

I'll never begrudge anyone that gets up everyday and puts in a full day's work.

I don't think skilled blue collar labor is looked down upon at all. Plumbers, Electricians and HVAC guys are usually some of the most well off people in any given city.

Many are also fairly intelligent. Mechanics, etc. It takes a lot of problem solving ability to do that kind of work.

Diagnostic ability is key.

Probably has it's roots in everyone going to college.

I agree with this. Instead of me wasting my time getting a Bachelor's, I should have (first) gone to a trade school in order to get my PTEC (wound up doing that after I finished my BS). I say my BS degree is a waste, but I'm sure it will be of use somewhere later in my career.

You got super defensive, I don't think he was putting anyone down for their lifestyle. He just said he didn't want that. Then you got in a dick measuring contest about going on trips

I'm elitist because i don't want a blue collar job?

Why'd you get so defensive? Are you insecure or something?

Maybe I just misinterpreted what he posted. I think it was the lifestyle comment that got under my skin. As long as they aren't breaking any laws who are we to judge how others choose to spend their free time?
