There is high speed video floating around of a medic or a Doc from 256 taking a round to the chest from an enemy sniper. Hits his plate and knocks him to the ground. 256 guys find and wound the sniper and then the medic performs life saving first aid to the very sniper that shot him.

My hats off to the medics and medical personnel who do great things in the shittiest of scenarios with minimal equipment and supplies in combat scenarios

Are you talking about this? It's from 05.

Did I understand that right.

A couple of thugs killing each other, is worse than catching a B-40 to the chest.

That poster is dumb as a box of cocks.

It was 1981. I was in my purple tank patrolling. All of a sudden, a round came banking in and destroyed me. Then I brushed my teeth and went to bed.

In all seriousness, thanks to you guys who served.

Sorry bud, not true. A CIB can be awarded to an infantryman that received fire, there is no requirement for the individual to return fire.

From the HRC website:

A recipient must be personally present and under hostile fire while serving in an assigned infantry or Special Forces primary duty, in a unit actively engaged in ground combat with the enemy. The unit in question can be of any size smaller than brigade.

(LINK )

And according to AR 600-8.22:

For award of the CIB a Soldier must meet the following three requirements:

(1) Be an infantryman satisfactorily performing infantry duties.

(2) Assigned to an infantry unit during such time as the unit is engaged in active ground combat.

(3) Actively participate in such ground combat. Campaign or battle credit alone is not sufficient for award of the CIB.

Bottom line, you can get a CIB for receiving indirect, or after an IED strike.

So Green Berets (18X) get the CIB too?

Yes. SF qualifies, however not 18X. It is not a real MOS, 18X is an enlistment option. Once you have successfully completed SFAS and Q Course, you earn one of 18 Series MOS's (18A,18B, 18C, or 18D.)

I have a buddy who was an MP. They pulled him for convoy security all the time. The convoy would get shot at or IED. He would return fire and all that. But he never got a CIB because he never took direct fire.

I was in the Venezuelan bush for two years. I was charged with protecting personnel and equipment at an outpost. Lol yeah, you can say I've seen combat.
