Adrenaline.

It's basically days or weeks of mind numbing boredom and routine and then the shite storm starts and you run on pure adrenaline until it's over.

It's not about the big picture or anything like that at all. It was all in the moment and about your brothers in arms.

Not me, however one of my uncles was in Normandy and I would ask him to tell me about being in combat. He did not like to talk about any of it but when we went squirrel hunting together I kept at him and he would describe the arse puckering scenarios.

Define combat.

You either receive a CIB (Combat Infrantryman's Badge) or you don't. It means you have engaged and closed with the enemy. Not like having a mortar round land inside the perimeter of your base or something.

99% boredom with 1% terror. Or Iraq was like that.

Best and worst year of my life.

I don't have a CUB. I was a 19K M1A2 Abraams tanker for 20 years. But when the tanks weren't needed, we played infantry and kicked in doors. A CIB just means you served in theater.

I would have to vehemently disagree with you on what a CIB is. But you're a DAT so I'd expect nothing less.

Yeah I'm a DAT and I have great respect for the COB and the guys I served with that earned them. What I was responding to was the statement that if you don't have a CIB then you don't know what combat is.

What about a CAB or CMB?
The Marine Corps has a CAR (Combat Action Ribbon) but it's the same regardless of MOS.

Dude, no. There are plenty of close combat examples for the CAB. And there are plenty of indirect fire CIB examples. And what about the CMB?

Don't go down this trail. We are all brothers.

And be live it or not, there's a reason for those. We were DATs, infantry was track grease (or crunchies).
