It will affect him for the rest of his life. This is a divorce with a young child involved. It could not only cost him an arm and a leg for the rest of his life but could also have a huge role on how much or little he gets to see his kid.

Maybe it's easy for me to say since I married an awesome woman, but I'd stay married to literally a piece of dog shite to be able to see my child all the time.

Are you planning on active involvement with your child, if you are, you are going to be interacting with her daily for some time. When your kid has kids, they are going to have to haul their asses all over town to see all the split family until you wither away and die.

Make sure you just aren't being petty before you do this, I am divorced 14 years ago now with a 17 yo, I can promise you that being a 50% parent 100% of the time is easier than being a 100% parent 50% of the time.

my parents divorced when I was 6 so I know all about the split family situation. I'm definitely not making my mind up today on this, just getting some feedback on the idea and I appreciate your post.

Your marriage was doomed from the beginning.

The only reason he needs to lawyer up is if his ex is a threat to his kid or if there are a lot of assets. Split or shared custody is a given unless someone is a danger to the child.

but why stay married if i'm miserable?

I'm very pro-divorce but I think you're getting one for the wrong reasons. Divorce isn't going to make you less miserable. Being miserable is just how life works, married or single doesn't matter. If you want to be less miserable, I would suggest drugs not divorce.

The OT: Reminding me I have my shite together since 2008.

I'm talking about if it gets nasty. Mine did and my ex was a complete nutjob. She physically attacked me while I was holding our 3yo in my arms.

Took an enormous amount of willpower to keep calm but if I hadn't she would have crucified me in court.

She tried to make shite up anyway and things were going her way until she slipped up and then her entire house of cards came tumbling down and the judge awarded me custody and she got cited for perjury.

Again, maybe, just maybe, your wife isn't the reason you are miserable. We have a tendency to blame our unhappiness on the easiest targets. Spouse, job, financial situations.

I would take some serious time and effort to get to the root of your angst.

I got divorced last year when my daughter was 4.

Just make sure you maintain a good co-parenting relationship with her mother and your kid will be fine.

Keep it civil and don't pit the child against the other parent
