I am diabetic
My doc - a med school prof - says the beetus and heart disease go hand-in-hand -- and he's not talking about the fat body beetus.

My dad had the stints. He was good to go in a day or two. My uncle had nearly 100% on the back side of his heart and when they tried to hit it for the angioplasty the needle just bounced off the clot. Ended up having bypass surgery, but they did the one where they take out a rib and go in from your back, so he avoided having his sternum split. He was running low for a week or two but he's back at it now.

Keep a close eye and stay on top of this. And you don't need to start doing triathlons or cross fit, but you should start walking more days of the week than not with someone (wife, kid, neighbor...) once you've bounced back.

The bounce back from a successful angioplasty w/stent is quick. You'll be on a little blood thinner that is critically important that you take. And, again, if you cheat yourself at all on your diabetes meds, now is the time to set yourself alarms/reminders, and buy one of those little 7-day pill boxes. You're young, and this isn't a good thing, but if you stay on top of things, you can limit the recurrences in the future (near and distant).

Also, depression after this procedure is common. Be sure you have someone who cares about you to talk to in the coming weeks and months. And take it one step at a time. Don't worry about that little bypass procedure until you know you need it.

If this means you were going to eat shitty (for you) food and get hammered, and this isn't a once-a-year type of thing, you do need some minor "lifestyle changes" when it comes to your health.

ETA- good luck to you tomorrow. You'll be in my thoughts. When you're sitting around and bored, write up the breakdown of your AV distribution rig for me. I'm still dying to know what half those components were.

I had angioplasty several years ago which involved my left coronary artery. Had a stent two weeks ago, right coronary artery, as an out patient and was cutting the yard the four days later.

Yeah, I know, but it won't hurt to have a workup done to be sure there are no lurking surprises. My buddies didn't get a whole lot of warning.

I keep myself as fit as I can. I alternate walking and bike riding every other day and try to watch what I eat. Have lost about 40 lbs over the last 4-5 years and feel really good.

Have you had the angiogram already? I assume since you went into such detail. But they usually fix the blockage at the same time.

Radial caths are ok. You will be fine. Good luck. If any reason you cant take blood thinners like plavix or similar (upcoming surgery for example) please let your cardiologist know. For diabetics, drug coated stents are the way to go, but they automatically buy you at least a year of plavix or similar.

Depression is positively correlated with CABG not angioplasty....most likely related to body image and acceptance of mortality.

Personally, no. I just know the association exists. I've never taken an in-depth look at the literature. Someone very well may be able to describe it. Most major surgeries carry a risk of it, too. As seemingly minor as arterial catheterization may seem, it appears to come with a similar risk to more major surgeries.

[link=(www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/23939299/)]Depression post PCI[/link] is higher than before. I've always thought it had something to do with realization of mortality as well, but that's not really something I expect to ever see published.

Interesting. I would be curious to know how any were STEMI versus planned PCI.

I've had angioplasty. They considered a stent. It was no big deal when I had it. The future is a hell of a time to be alive.

ETA: Mine was from check ups due to a congenital heart defect from when I was a baby. Have to go get my check up every year.

My husband had an angioplasty and stents placed while having a heart attack, 7 years ago. Recovery was great, no problems since then.

Man, sorry to hear. You'll be fine, it's good it was caught early. Lucky break, IMO.

Just have the babes give you a head start when you start chasing them.

I had a heart attack the Sunday after 9/11. First had angioplasty then OHS. Two years later I had some small chest pain and was at a hospital so went by the ER had some test and had angioplasty which found a ballooning artery. They then put in a stent. Went home the next day. And several years later while at my heart dr he thought there was a problem with my heart so he wanted me to have another AP. So I had one the next day. He was sure that I had a blockage and would need stents. When they did the test everything was good.
The test is uncomfortable but not unbearable.
Good luck.

There are other articles mentioning STEMI + PCI + depression with regards to outcomes mostly, but I just did a cursory glance at the articles; I don't know if you're referring to them or the one I linked. The wording in the one article I did link says they took depression scales "1 day before" the procedure. I'm hoping there were no STEMI in that group.

Either that, or they risked some fairly long door to balloon times. Or sent out a random survey and got very lucky in their responses (by very unlucky patients, I may add).
