Or the Romans.

Were the Dutch a colonial power? I never hear much about their colonies and how big of a presence they were. Obviously not much compared to the Brits and Spaniards.

Many of the British colonies started out as dutch ones. The Dutch controlled (at one or different points) New York, Suriname, South Africa, Sri Lanka, much of the Eastern Caribbean, and Indonesia. The English became a colonial power in large part due to wars with The Dutch Republic. They also controlled trading posts in modern Taiwan, Brazil, West Africa, Kuwait, Thailand, Chile, etc.

The dutch were one of the big boys right along side the Spanish, Portuguese, English, and French.

Also, that map seems to include parts of Louisiana (meaning the greater Mississippi Basin) that the Brits never claimed

Yeah, not sure where that map is from (or when it would be dated) but it is incorrect in many areas:

-- Indonesia was Dutch
-- Other part of the Congo was Belgian, not British
-- British Guiana was their only holding in South America
-- Germany had several colonies in Africa

This is probably a better representation of the extent of the British empire over time:

I think the Brits were ultimately done in by their lack of real resources. In order to keep feeding their empire machine they had to hold distant territories where the resources were.

That proved harder and harder to do.

The Dutch didn't have a whole lot of territory but they controlled the spice trade and became incredibly wealthy.

The British flag most certainly flew over Louisiana! Are you saying it did not or am I misunderstanding the meaning of the post?

And the British no doubt had the greatest ever colonial power and 2nd place is not even all that close.

My vote would have to be the Spanish. They colonized so much of the New World (South, Central, and North America) and their influence is still felt today. Look at all the countries who still speak Spanish. The British are a close second.

Agree or Disagree?

If we consider the "History" as framed by the current PTB, I agree. Their Empire "Never Set" we are told.

There are a few other speculative "Empires":

WERE all other records of other "Empires" completely erased? I doubt it. Is it possible that the true "History" of the World and its Conquistadors are hidden for safe-keeping in the Vaults of The Vatican? Smithsonian? In the catacombs of Paris, Rome, London, Switzerland?

1) Empire: Unknown ( Pre-Noah's Flood )

A frightening world. This was the Antediluvian World where a much larger, much superior man (in every way) shared his world with Giants,Titans, and odd creatures. Some of their structure seemed to have survived even The Flood.

2) Empire: Un-Known/Un-Acknowledged ( (b]Post[/i]-Noah's Flood -- probably before Abraham)

Babylonian?
Atlantis?

There was definitely an Empire here. God scattered and erased Babel.

In a highly recommended and definitive book, The Genesis Flood, The Biblical Record and its Scientific Implications, antiquity's records record Babel's existence and expressed great empire. (whether you are a Creationist OR Evolutionist, you want to read the research in this book!)

>

The authors lean heavily into adding perhaps another 3,000 years to the previous 6,000 traditional Biblical timeline to account for an already "Ancient" civilization that existed by the time the days of Abraham are mentioned. ( Their theory would make the world's timeline approx 9,000 years -- - [below] the last chapter Table of Content addresses this theory)

3) 1) Tartarians

Usually attribute to "Tartarian", but there is obviously an un-accounted for Empire of master-builders & designers whose (still largely sandbagged) advanced secrets & technology are responsible for the very same "Romanesque" and "Baroque", styles, starforts, road systems, canals, and infrastructure still in place, found on every continent north-south-east-and west on this VERY Flat extended plan realm (And yes, America's own "old looking city infrastructure" was "founded" and discovered in America by "Free" Masons etal, assigned as "scouts" of gold & wealth in North America.)

Of course all these pre-existing, ancient structures are always accounted for and attributed by "Historians" to having been "built by the great Roman Empire". We could only simply nod (until the world's vast library of knowledge could be shared via the internet.)

*********************************************************

The most recent "Greatest" Colonial Powers was actually a shared enterprise, financed by certain Bankers *cough* who used Europe's provincial "Low Countries" entity mostly as their base of operations (easier to "hide" history of powers-that-be that way.)

Oddly, the Netherlands had at least 4 names (see: Dutch East India Company aka Netherlands), Holland, Flanders, Gaul, Deutschland / "Dutchland" CONNECT THESE DOTS ) -- but also Spain is said to also have ruled the Low Countries in addition to Portugal.

Hudson Bay Company = British Empire (Bankers kept moving their base of operation).

Netherlands (The Dutch / Germany) + England + Spain + Portugal + France = "Empire" of musical chairs in order to confuse and mis-direct "History" and it's actual behind-the-scene long-ruling PTB.

The Dutch (via their many nameds / IDs) are THE Missing Link to Discovery and the assigned "New World" delegation of overlording.

The Dutch East India Company was the richest entity on earth by the 1500s, doing major trading and exploration of the realm -- including "discovering" Australia.

Over the area of West Florida (the Florida Parishes). Not all as depicted on that map.

and yet were debating it

Culturally it's the Romans/Holy Roman Empire/Catholic Church

economically and with the advance and the dominance of Western civilization/democracy the British

the Spanish kinda fricked up with the scorched earth practice, expanded slavery

the Portuguese had so much influence due to their navigation skills

Khan was able to conquer 11,000,000 square miles with no muskets or cannons. Still pretty damn impressive. But yeah as soon as he died and muskets became more mainstream the Mongol empire collapsed like a deck of cards

This is not true at all. Eventually the Mongol empire split into several smaller but still Mongol empires. Genghis was in the 1200s. Firearms were used by the Russians to kick out the Golden Horde hundred of years later. I want to say the 1500s, without googling it.
