As others have said, get a cat. Don’t feed the cat much, so it’s motivated to be a mouser. Mice will get the message really fast.

We have a house up off the ground in the country and mice had become a problem a few years ago. Peppermint oil, sonic repellent plugs, and glue traps along the baseboard between the back door and kitchen. Havent seen evidence of one in at least 18 months. Now…I fear there is a big-arse snake under the porch eating them. But that’s a problem for another day.

Do yall keep your cats inside or outside?

I have never had a cat. If I get one then how do you keep it outside yet around?

Mix baking soda and cornbread muffin mix, 1 cup soda and 1 cup muffin mix. Put it in plastic containers, Cool whip, with a mouse size hole, in several locations.
Your mouse problem will end.

That’s a long answer but google will get you there. Basically have to throw em outside and then slowly wean them off of cat food until you’re feeding them very little.

Does keeping them outside solve your mouse problem?

I dont have a problem currently but have considered getting a cat just to avoid ever having a problem.

I have a family member who claims Irish Springs soap bars will keep them away.

Poison bait is the only answer.

Not traps.

Not elaborate bucket devices with spinning cans.

Not cats.

Not anything else.

You will not outsmart the mice with your placement of traps.

If you have cats that are also predators then you have to choose between the mice/rats and your pets since the secondary poisoning will kill the cats.

Additionally, eliminate any outdoor food sources.

I had mucho success back in the day in a home I had that was a field previously with field mice. Of course peanut butter on traps was effective BUT I had pretty much 100% success with a couple of packs of those cheapie sound wave plug ins. Those things worked for me big time. Didn’t have any issues after that. Guess you need to do your research on which work before you buy them though. I just had dumb luck with my purchase circa 2003.

Our country mice ate the Irish Spring.

Tractor Supply has a big Black refillable Rat bait station. I use the D-Con green square poised cubes in them for my work and equipment shops. They work at great killing mice and rats.

Living in the country means that field mice are plentiful. My cat, Nimrod, has killed over 100 this year.

I have never had one but I smelled rat piss outside my door for the 1st time ever in my life about 10 minutes ago.

They know winter's coming.

What they don't know is I have a mean arse mutt that will give them the shaken baby syndrome if she catches it.

Have y'all ever seen the video of the mice plague in Australia from over a decade ago? If you haven't, prepare to be disgusted if you watch the video. And as bad as you think it is, wait until the part in the video when the lady opens up the door to the barn or whatever it is...Holy Lord.

I don't know why but I probably laughed a little bit harder than i should at that statement.

Yep, ever since we built near the cane fields. Get those black claw looking traps. Only ones that work. You can set them to catch the smaller ones too.

Mine sleeps in my detached shop on most nights. Sometimes she just stays out to hunt at night. Otherwise she just hangs out outside. When she sees the sugarcane combines, she starts patroling.

If I hear a mouse in the attic, she will spend a couple of nights in the attic.
