Smoothest, no-bityest for me is Woodford Reserve, and it's not even close. Other people might have more experience and more answers, but that one is legit.

Balvenie double-wood for Scotch.

Four Roses Single Barrel

I think a nice Four Roses would be the obvious answer.

God, I hate this shite. Is it aged in mesquite barrels?

I second the Red Breast 12y and I don’t particularly like Irish whiskeys. It also comes in a box for easy wrapping.

I know this is an old thread but where are people even finding Pappy or Blanton's these days?

I am just now seeing this thread. What did you settle on?

When it comes to bourbon I love Knob’s Creek.
If it comes to scotch, I just recently was gifted a bottle of Lagavulin. Has a nice smokey flavor.

Needed a gift for the friend that guided me on an elk hunt. Glenlivet had been mentioned in conversation on a previous hunt. Went in search of a bottle in the small town taverns in our area and finally found one. Price as marked was reasonable and it looked no worse for wear after wiping all of the dust off of the bottle. After it was presented and opened, much to his pleasure, he examined the bottle and found that it had been aged 12 years in the cask and sat on the shelf in the small town tavern for another twelve. No wonder the price was so reasonable because it too was twelve years old.

There are some really good Japanese whiskeys that are closer to the bourbon style palate.

-Yamazaki 12 year: $200-250
-Hibiki: $89-110
-Hakushu 12 year: $200-220
-Komagatake Limited editions 2018-2021: $140-160.

My personal choice for “everyday” is Woodford Reserve. I always have this available but do enjoy Basil Hayden and four roses for a change of pace.
