Old forester 1920 is good but it has a bite.

What whiskey would you buy under 150.00 that is smooth and doesn’t have a bite?

If you're buying the someone who is into whiskey, I wouldn't worry about it having a "bite".

A good bourbon that won’t break the bank is Woodford Reserve

I'll second this. It really is a good bourbon and I can get a 1.75 litre bottle for 62 bucks at the liquor store down the road. Well worth it

Go to any of the spirit stores in the area like Martin's Wine Cellar & Hokus Pokus to see what barrel picks they have. These are usually unique and offer one of a kind flavor. A couple years ago Martin's had a High West pick that was great and Hokus Pokus has a Maker's Mark that is good as well.

I've only seen it once, and that was a special occasion situation involving a store owner and some gift baskets.

Elgin’s Rye and Bourbon are my two favorites. Plus it’s made in an old brothel. Their rum is actually quite good but I prefer rhum agricole.
