Nobody outside of Louisiana and parts of Texas care worth a dog shite about which school in LA is better than any other.

Dude, I mean this sincerely and with nothing but respect for you as a unique individual: you need to stop making asinine threads on TD and go out and try to get laid.

This. If you plan to stay in state in whatever field you major in both are fine. LSU has more prestige outside of the state but it's not considered an elite by any means. And the biggest factor is what field of study, because most of the top tier schools are known for one field more than another.

Dont get me wrong, Tech is still a great engineering program, but its been shown in the recent past how much tougher LSU's engineering program has gotten. (in a positive way)
My dad graduated from tech with engineering degree, brother from LSU, and ive taken many classes at LSU as well.

I could just personally say that from 40s years ago til now, its shifted from, "tech is the place to go for engineering" to "tech and LSU are both great."

Just my 2 cents.

Careful. You and I are smart enough to know that, but most of Louisiana is not.

Daughter is a Senior this year, I went to college night at her school in April. She asked Tulane adviser about engineering, she wants to do computer. The Tulane adviser told her Liberal Arts we are great, but not in Engineering. She went to Tech, very impressed with their program. Very small, but very hands on and 99% of their kids found jobs. LSU being the flagship and largest, is designed to weed out the weak and then the remaining kids have very good opportunities, internships, networking, etc. Tech will hold your hand, LSU will cut it off. It is what you make of it. I could see how this would seem like LSU's program is better, but I think it isn't designed for everyone. Tech is trying to make the kids who put in the effort better. That was her take and her adviser's position and she is at one of the better schools in the State.

Get into Tech's or LSU honors program if you are smart....like me.

Yes, you will be around some different people but the positives FAR outweigh the negatives.

LSU's honors program has come along nicely in the last few years. Tech's honor program was 1st class when I was there.

Make the most of your opportunities...wherever you are.

Unless someone takes the same curriculum at both schools, how the frick would one know?

Even then, you'd probably think the one you took first would be more difficult.

School does matter but not so much in this case. Perseverance more so.

I wish your daughter all the success in the world.

I'm made this thread to see how people honestly feel and WHY people love 1st tier so much. Maybe it's because of my personal experiences at a 1st tier school and what I've seen happen to other smart students that has made me more wary of them.

I'm not saying school should be easy, but sometimes in the effort to weed the weak...you end up pushing out people who were not necessarily bad students and are good workers.

People act like lower tiers don't do anything, but honestly I feel like I have learned a lot at SU, and yes this is coming from Tech graduate.
