I felt the same way and I only visited for a short period of time. I can only imagine your experience considering you have lived there.

However, I did love the history and charm of the city as well as the great restaurants and attractive women. It was definitely a beautiful city to visit.

Born and raised. I'm just tired of having friends visit (one a Yankee, one a West Coast guy, one a Texas, one a hippy, one a hipster, etc) and everyone "judging" them as if they don't meet up to their South Carolina/redneck standards. Oh, and the women here suck. Are they hot? Sure. But they are dumb and have no self-worth. That's they work in retail and are looking for "Mr. Charleston society." Most of the guys here are complete losers and dorks. Too big of losers to make it anywhere else so they had to come home under mommy and daddy's wing. It is a beautiful city though.

Winston-Salem...we visited there a couple weeks ago and like it a lot.

You should definitely move to NC man. I'm in VA and am about 1.5 hours away from skiing, whitewater rafting and mountain biking and about 3 hours away from the beach. You'd be relatively close to both as well. NC has some quality beaches.

Most likely we won't but her best friend lives there and we do know more people there. I care less about that than she does. I'm slowly selling her to the NC option without being overly pushy about it.

I've been to Utah many times over the last 20 years and have never had a single encounter with batshit crazy Mormons.

It's a pretty awesome place in my experience. The only bad thing I've seen is the weak arse beer they have to sell in stores.

Mormons are good people. Mormon women are wild when they step out.

That's what interests me so much is the access to the mountains. Never lived so close to the mountains. I feel our quality of life would be better there too with the outdoor activity options. Cost of living in Winston(as the locals say) is really affordable too.

I've lived in Virginia, New York, DC, London, DC (again), and I just moved to Seattle.

I have to give props to the state of Washington. The Pacific NW is pretty great. I'm digging it here.

How does the cost of living in Seattle compare to DC?

It's not all bad. There are a good many eats and outdoor options. Roughly in between Dallas, Atlanta, Memphis, Nola, beach. The craft beer scene is coming on. Close to multiple sec schools for games. Jackson is ok minus the schools. Then you have to join me in the damn burbs of Madison or the Rez.

That's how it was for me when I first moved to AZ. I was mesmerized by all the mountains nearby. Right now it's hot as hell outside....but in the non summer months I can easily drive 15 minutes from my house and be hiking a trail. My husband can do the same and go mountainbiking when he gets off work.

We can drive 2 hours north into higher elevations and spend the day or go camping in the mountains with 80 degree highs/50 degree lows vs the 110-115 highs/90 degree lows right now in Scottsdale.

I would definitely do it if I were you. 1.5 hours away from the mountains is very nice. You can easily pull off day trips to go skiing, hiking, biking and rafting. It's a little bit of a gamble considering you dont have a job lined up yet but the job market in NC is strong.

From my limited experience:

Inside the actual District (anywhere other than SE) is still more expensive than Seattle. But Seattle has a much more self sustainable thing going on, which lowers the price of a lot of things.

For instance my energy bill is substantially lower in a bigger house here.

Public transportation is no where near the same convenience it is in DC, but Seattle is also way more spread out.

I guess it is close to the same when considering everything, but I think I was spending more money per day in DC.

from Provo to Ogden is an absolute nightmare. ugh. i know that wasn't the question, but I would never want to live there.

if you can eek out a living in the mountain regions of MT, then I can't think of a better place to be.

Seattle is becoming cold and sterile. Ballard is carrying the banner of what Seattle used to be.

Which has worse traffic? DC or Seattle? To me, DC traffic is worse than any other city I've been to. Ive never been to Seattle though.
