I am deciding between working for a wireline company (I think does perforation, runs logs, fishes tools, and other things) probably as a floorhand or a mudlogging company all I would be doing is sample catching at the shale shaker. Im a petroleum engineer major. The mudlogging job would be easier. From a future employer perspective is one better than the other or is the experience all that matters?

I'd just concentrate on working your arse off and impressing your bosses, and don't tell anyone you're majoring in PetE.

but the mud logging has a bigger upside after you stop catching shaker samples and actually design some mud

if you're gonna roughneck for a drilling co., you will make 60k a year.

if you are a sample catcher, you will make 38k a year.

I doubt it makes much difference to a future employer, but you'll learn a lot more about what's going on downhole running wireline.

Go for the wireline. Did a sample catching gig in college, wouldn't recommend it. (TWSS)

Summer internship? If go with wireline. It will help you learn how logging tools work and how to read logs. These are very valuable skills that could land you a job as a petrophysicist one day.

Go to work for one of the drilling contractors. Learn how wells are actually drilled. Then go to work for an operator. Way less wool will be pulled over your eyes that way.

Definitely this. Valuable skillset that could be useful in any discipline (production, reservoir, drilling/completions, geo).
