Burbs but never further than 15 miles away from downtown. I don't get people who buy homes 20+ miles away, especially in towns where traffic is volatile.

Easy, country. I grew up in New Orleans, where my kids grew up in the country. They are like me. Why the hell put up driving in traffic 2 hours + a day to only drive 10 miles?

I guess I have to choose a fourth option. My city is lower in population (200,000k), but it's fairly dense, urban, and the 'second city' of a large metro area. It suits my family fine so I guess I will go with that. I don't know if you would call it a true city. Not as bland as the 'burbs, not as dense as a major city, but 40 minutes from one. I can also hit three different national parks in a couple hours and total wilderness.

My family makes me happy the most. Family vacations, a 5th wheel camper to vacation with my family makes me happy, a nice house in a good neighborhood, the ability to have a house in a good school district, hunting lease, a 4 wheeler, etc.

Most of those things are hard to enjoy (if you enjoy that stuff) without some extra income.

Yep, with two little ones.

i don't see how anyone could be happy without a little disposable income. i'd be miserable without it.

money doesn't cure every problem, but it sure cures a lot of them. money is what enables someone to have a nice house in a nice neighborhood as opposed to a trailer in the boonies.

Suburbs with a good park/school system

We are too active to be happy in the country. Wouldn't mind having a weekend "get-away" camp in the country though.

Too active to be in the country? That doesn't make sense to me.

He could mean they are very active in their community(kids play sports, they are involved with other groups, etc,etc ) and wouldn't want to live so far away from all of it in the country. That's my guess.
