If you like a big city, then Charlotte. It's a really neat city and really isn't too hard to get around.

Being that I live in Memphis (well suburb) I'd put it second unless you don't want to live in a big city (Charlotte).

I'm just not a fan of B-ham really. The infrastructure there sucks arse.

Memphis has better food, Beale, NBA team, better hunting and fishing (close).

Schools in the suburbs are very good. If you live in Memphis your kids have to go to private schools though and it isn't cheap. Most of the people in the suburbs that send their kids to private schools do so just so they can say their kids goes to a private school.

I've been in Memphis for 21 yrs. I've never been the victim of a crime here. Doesn't mean it can't happen but it hasn't.

Also, there are a ton of jobs in the medical business here but that's probably because there are so many hospitals here (Methodist, Baptist, Le Bonheur, St Jude, St Francis, etc)

Dude I said Charlotte had cool stuff around and ranked it No. 1.

If we classify Charlotte as a major city, you can pretty easily make the case it's one of the most boring major cities in America. That doesn't mean it's bad, I live in a slightly less boring but still fairly boring major city. Point being, nobody is getting really amped up for their weekend in Charlotte, Dallas, Atlanta, etc. They're all quality places to live, but they've all boomed recently so a lot of our stuff is pretty new and arguably lacks character.

Birmingham is a slightly shittier BR

So you haven't been to Birmingham in the last 20 years?

If you like a bigger city then Charlotte, if you want more of a town then Birmingham.

In what fricking universe is BR even arguably comparable to Birmingham.

Memphis is going to be last on any list. I have some friends that lived in Birmingham for a long time. The husband got promoted but it meant moving to Charlotte. And if I remember correctly, it took a lot of convincing to get them to move. Family in the area, both husband and wife from this state, kids in school, etc. I ran into them last summer as they were home for a visit, and said they loved Charlotte, but would move back in a heartbeat to be closer to family.

Tons of opportunity in any of those places for medical profession. Are you a doc? Specialty?
