Is this you?
If not, you got the shaft.
Eta: Looked it up, my $5.45 an hour in 2006 would be worth ~$0.67 an hour in 1946.

How old are you? I played for Carolyn Park at 14 and 15. We were the shite. This was around 2000.

4-5 years ahead of me
But I did grow up around the park, I was on either the 9-10 or 11-12 year old Carolyn Park franchise team when you were on the 14-15 team

You from Smackover?

It was good times. I'm pretty sure we had the only Mexican kid in St. Bernard on our team. He and I would wreck shite. Admittedly not the best competition.

I was 16. I took a summer job at KFC because a recent graduate friend of my brothers was a "manager" and told me I would work the register. I went to a two day orientation for new hires at the Big Chicken in Marietta, Ga.. After the 8 hours of orientation was through, I received my uniform. The pants were hard fabric, skin tight and two inches to short. Dude told me to wear them until they could get my size.
Show up the 1st day and my brothers friend put me in the kitchen. A black man named Curtis showed me how to bread and arrange chicken on the racks. He was meticulous about the process. Bread in flour/spice mixture.....tap, tap my hands at wrist to shake off excess flour. Into mik. Repeat process. Rack. Drop into fryer.
Manager sent everyone home around close except me and another dude while he sat in an office and talked on a phone. I scrubbed and washed dishes until midnight and left soaking wet and smelling like grease from head to toe. That was a Saturday night and I was scheduled to come in Sunday. I called in and told him I quit as soon as they opened.
Went to work that Monday for a buddy of mines brother who did hard scapes and masonry and worked all summer carrying pavers , bricks and mixing mortar. Got tan as hell and enjoyed the work. That getting wet and greasy as hell while a fat arse sat on his arse was not my cup of tea.

I'm killing myself trying to remember his name. It wasn't Ricky. Pretty sure it was more Hispanic than that.

Age 16 working every Sat night at the local newspaper printing the Sunday morning paper. Typically worked 7:00PM to 3:00AM for $1.25/Hr, did this until I finished High school. During summers bailed hay for 2 cents a bale, usually our crew picked up around 900 bales in 12 hours, 18 bucks cash each or about $1.50/hour, big money for the time.
