Here's the part where you find out that housing in Houston isn't all that cheap in the good, convenient areas.

The positive is that working on the west side, the commute from the burbs won't be as bad.

Better go 400 plus if you don't want the ghetto which most of Houston is

Who are all of these people who can just say "I'm going to have to add another 100k to my housing budget". I feel poor . We make around 180k combined and I have more than enough savings for a 20% downpayment on a 400k house, but I just don't feel like can swing that house note right now. I think I'm just going to have to deal with a long commute. Thank god we have a car that gets 50 MPG.

no idea why anyone would want to live in the suburbs. If you're working in north and west houston, try the Heights.

Are you sure that you're talking about Spring? Spring has one of the lowest crime rates in the Houston area.

you'll be going against traffic to/from work in both directions. Very up and coming neighborhood that's just outside the loop.

Check out Cypress specifically Fairfield, Blackhorse or Bridges. Reasonable real estate prices and good schools.

Yeah, garden oaks/oak forest would be a good place to look. A lot of my friends are buying houses in that area now.

That would be a downgrade in house size and we were already looking to go bigger before the move. Have one kid on the way and plan to have another while in this house. A 2 bed 1 bath isn't going to cut it. I'm not sacrificing house to be closer. I'll be way out in the burbs before I go down in house (currently in 1500 ft^2). I I get to make my own hours for the most part, so the commute is not the absolute top priority as I can leave for 4 , but I want it as small as possible.

YEah Exxon but also Springwoods development. It will have an entertainment disctrict similar to the City Center.

THe only thing about the north side is that 45 is due for an overhaul.
