Why is obtaining a MS easier than obtaining a BS. Since technically an MS prepare for advanced studies, shouldn't it be harder.

depends if your MS is thesis or not. Professional options can be easier, thesis can be harder. ALl depends.

I think you need to seize your opportunities so they can multiply.

I'm currently pursuing a PhD in computer engineering. People often tell me I'm wasting my time, but I'm too invested now to stop.

Consider a PhD only if all of the RNs have gone home already

outside of academia, a PhD offers few benefits (and might even hurt your employment opportunities with certain individuals).

I probably heard this several hundred times before I pursued mine in engineering. I'm glad I didn't listen because this has not been the case for me. However, I'm aware it could be true in other fields.

No. I am black. I am at a disadvantage due to my BS degree and lack of experience.

I'm just trying to find an opportunity. I'm not looking for a 70k job right off.

Doesnt sound like it;s a good idea then.

a PhD isnt "Im looking for an opportunity"....it's more, "I cant imagine not doing this research for the rest of my life"

more than half the Phds never get tenure.

If you get Phd, it better be in something that enables you to DO something, not just have an academic credential.

Atomic Physics. Most people take 5-7, but I know several that took 9-10 years.

You should've gotten one in gender equality studies. Takes less than 3 years, and when you get out you can still bitch about not having a job, and blame Bush.

I recall you were having a tough time in the job market. Everything pan out okay?

OP, I've considered my PhD also, but can't come to terms with it. My industry is very competitive and the job market is slim right now, so I've decided that the only way I'll pursue it is if I get a full ride to UH, SDSMT, or CSM, which are the best of the best.
