Called my father Daddy til i was about 7 or 8, then i got into watching reruns of the Brady Bunch and noticed that they called their father 'Dad', so that's what I started calling mine... and it stuck.

Hell, I'm 39, but if I met you when I was child, like the parents of my grade school/ high school friends, you are still Mr. or Mrs. whatever to me.

that's one thing the south does better (mr/mrs first name)

going by the last name just seems too formal

If you are raised in the true south, the man who raised you will always be your Daddy. If you are a tex-mex, you probably say something along the lines of what a homosexual would say.

For instance, I'd never say to a friend, "My daddy is coming to visit next week."

I do, too. But I received a call from him and was hanging out with friends, so I answered "hey daddy, what's up..." and that's how it got started.

Perfect opportunity for your dad to say to you, "You can call me Father, you can call me Jacob, you can call me Jake. You can call me a dirty son-of-a-bitch, but if you EVER call me Daddy again, I'll finish this fight."

If I would have ever thought about calling my mother by her first name her dad would have slapped in the back of the head.

If you're calling anyone Daddy after age 3-4, they better be spanking you while they're banging you doggy style. But if you're talking about the men who raised you, call him dad, father, pops, or whatever else they're comfortable. Hearing a grown man say Daddy is just weird as hell.

I will always kiss my boys on the cheek and expect them to call me dad until the end of time.

And, I don't project on anyone else how they choose there expressions of love......unless harmful.

I never once heard a grown man call their father daddy in NOLA. Then I came to BR and heard it a few times. Weird as frick hearing a 40 year old dude tell me "I watched the game with my daddy last night...me and my daddy went fishing." I don't care what you call your dad when talking to him, but in the third person it is definitely weird.
