When do we run out of cops for "second job" security positions?

Cops in schools, airports, movie theaters, clubs, universities, and on and on. Anywhere people will gather.
Many of these places already had police. Most reputable clubs have a cop working in uniform as security, but now they may need more? Each school needs one. Universities have police, but these have probably been stepped up? Community colleges have been targeted? Large businesses with large numbers of employees?
Asking cops on here, has there been a strain on cops to provide these services? Extra, money is nice, but at a certain point guys want days off? You could literally work 7 days a week with second jobs if one chose to. There is already a shortage in most large cities.
Not trying to flame. Just asking.

every cop I know loves, LOVES doing detail duty. They get paid much better than normal pay and get perks and don't really do much at all.

Not disputing any of this. Just asking when we run out of warm bodies to put in front of doors? And all the liability that entails. Have already had several police vs. student videos where young cops are choke slamming 12 years olds etc. when a school cop job should be done by a guy who can handle himself but who has kids and has a thick skin.
The same problems can certainly come up at a bar. Beer, boyfriends, badge bunny bartender and waitresses. Throw some youngish cops into that mix?
But I am getting off topic a bit.
There was a cop working this club, right? He exchanged shots with the POS first? Was there only one cop? I'm at work and can only watch so much of this depressing shite.

A good friend of mine showed me his extra duty check for 2 weeks at 2 places he work and he had made over $750.
He said it varies but makes $20,000+ at extra duties. He said the bet part is that since it's paid by a private company and not the city none of the reporters trying to see what officers make would find out since it's not public record.

The problem is that cops work all these extra hours, then are too tired to do their real job. That's how they end up shooting everyone.

I just see it reaching a tipping point. From just zero coverage to guys not willing to work their real jobs if needed. Why go deal with turds for an extra shift when I can work at a bar and chase pussy or at a bank and read a book?
The extra cash has to be tempting and there for the taking, but there's a point of being overworked. Overworked cops sounds as good as an overworked air traffic controller.

They like doing the detail overtime. Mostly they won't actually have to do anything. So they would just keep doing it.
Br for example, work overtime 7-6 nights a year and maybe one night after a game you'd actually be called to do something. Restaurants like chimes get a cop on detail there, but never have I actually seen one have to go in there and deal with criminal activity. Cop just got paid to sit there and people watch.
I'm saying you won't run out of bodies. It's easy money.

Absolutely. I pay our details $30/hr to toss the occasional drunk out and walk the girls to their cars. Plus they get free food pretty much whenever they want.

Hope so. The need just increased dramatically.

I work one detail a week for 5 hours on that night. It's nice to have the extra money but I would rather a raise than have to make extra money. Some guys work non stop and I don't understand how they do it, I would get burned out. But to answer your question, no we will not run out of cops to work details.

The thing with extra duty details is getting hooked up with the RIGHT detail. Some are easier than others, but are only offered at undesirable times.
The worst one I ever had on a regular basis was the soup kitchen at St. Vincent De Paul homeless shelter. Between the smell of the nasty arse food they served, the smell of the vagrants, and having to watch emotionally disturbed, ill mannered people eat, I only stuck with it for a year or so. It was offered right before my shift started from 11-2pm, so it was worth it to be able to get home at a decent hour.
I know some guys who work some for big corporate companies that are lay outs. They literally can show up and go to sleep, watch movies, ect. and never have to do anything. Scoring something like that is all about who you know.

Crime prevention districts take a lot in BR, that's for sure

I ended up with a dance school that starts right after my shift. I've worked some terrible ones before I got this one, but I never worked the soup kitchen, I end up there enough during the shift anyway.

Working detail is considered a perk.
If they could have their way they would require by law that businesses hire them and pay full price which is more than private security guards cost.
For some businesses and use permits they do require you to hire cops as a condition of the zoning or permit approval. These gigs are usually really sweet although not without risk.

That sounds like something the mob would do.

I think the word you are looking for is extortion.

Yes. Sounds very 1930's Chicago.

Extortion or not, I am hiring a police officer of its my business for liability purposes. I would rather an officer than a $10/hour guy that can't get hired by law enforcement to be my armed security. Just for liability purposes of its my company.
One bad situation and you lose patrons.
Paying a weekly fee for officers to sit there is way way better than ending up losing your business because you would rather hire an outside company because of cost.

easy, when the cash money from crime exceeds the cull factor of integrity. In Obamaland... all cops are subject to being bought... part of the plan
